Football became secondary following Vanderbilt’s 31-27 win over Tennessee State Saturday.
Tennessee State linebacker Christion Abercrombie was transported to an area hospital where he underwent emergency surgery after sustaining a head injury during the game, according to reports.
“The last I heard he was in surgery; we’ve been praying for him,” TSU coach Rod Reed told the Tennessean said after the game. “I’m going to leave here and go there to see about him.”
Reed said Abercrombie the apparent injury occurred before halftime, though it is unclear how the injury happened.
Abercrombie was reportedly given oxygen after collapsing.
He was last listed in critical condition, reports indicated.
