McDowell, a 6-foot-4, 225 graduate student, was 11-1 as the Grizzlies’ starting quarterback, totaling 2779 yards and accounting for 22 touchdowns. Under his leadership, Montana advanced to the FCS national championship game, losing to South Dakota State 23-3.
The Panthers were led by Trazon Connley under center last year, winning the SWAC West and participating in the conference championship game, where they lost to Celebration Bowl champion Florida A&M 35-14. Connley completed 55 percent of his passes for 2063 yards and 9 touchdowns for PVAMU.
