Marching band is a sport. This much was determined when we published our preseason top 15-band poll for 2015.
We took it a step further when we produced our HBCU band rankings by conference, while surveying participants to provide feedback on their band rankings for each conference from top to bottom.
Now that the season is underway, it’s only fair that we do what so many other collegiate programs and athletic conferences do with student athletes on a weekly basis; select the athlete – or in this case – the band of the week.
Starting this week, and every week throughout the football season, we are going give fans the opportunity to vote for the HBCU Sports Band of the Week.
If your school’s band is not one of the bands listed this week, don’t worry. As new videos of halftime performances (from football games played the preceding week) become available, we – with your help – will consider those performances as potential nominees for band of the week.
The band that receives the most votes in our weekly band poll will be named HBCU Sports Band of the Week and will automatically become a nominee for HBCU Sports Band of the Year to be announced in January. (BOTY details will be published in a few weeks.)
This week’s nominees (selected by our staff) are the five bands we featured earlier this week.
Alcorn State: Halftime show vs. Georgia Tech
Grambling: Halftime show vs. California
Southern: Halftime show vs. Louisiana Tech
North Carolina A&T: Halftime show vs. Shaw
Prairie View A&M: Halftime show vs. Texas Southern
Now, it’s time to vote! (Poll closes Friday night at midnight)
Grambling is the number one band in all HBCU
You forgot one. FAMU’s Marching “100”!
