ATLANTA, GA – In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) will host a virtual mental health summit that will bring together student-athletes to learn about and explore mental health and its effects.

The SIAC’s Mental Health Summit is a two-part virtual conference that will take place on Thursday, May 28th, and Friday, May 29th beginning at 3 p.m. EST. The first segment of the summit will be hosted by Eric Kussin, founder of the #SameHere Movement. JK Willis and Stevie Pettus, co-founders of Let’s Talk About Mental Health (LTMH), will host the second segment.

“The health and wellness of our student-athletes remains a paramount concern of all SIAC stakeholders,” said Commissioner Greg Moore. “In light of this fact and in an effort to help mitigate the mental health impacts of related to this current crisis, we are extremely thankful to partner with the #SameHere Movement and Let’s Talk About Mental Health to facilitate a constructive discussion and provide students with useful tools and approaches to help support them during this difficult time.”

During the Thursday segment, participants will hear from Eric Kussin, founder of the #SameHere Movement, as he explains how mental health is a topic that affects everyone while introducing prevention mechanisms, healing practices, and positive coping strategies. Viewers will have the chance to participate in an interactive Q & A session following the presentation.

Friday’s segment will feature co-creators of Let’s Talk About Mental Health (LTMH), JK Willis and Stevie Pettus. Participants will be able to hear Willis and Pettus discuss how to leverage creative skills to create a mental health brand. The speakers will also clarify how mental health inspires creativity and how it can be demonstrated as a student-athlete.
