MEAC Football Players Of The Week – Week 2

NORFOLK, Va. – Bethune-Cookman wide receiver Jawill Davis was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced today. Delaware State’s defensive back Terrick Colston was named Defensive Player of the Week.

Florida A&M’s Devin Bowers earned Rookie of the Week honors while Hampton’s Michael Young was selected as the Offensive Lineman of the Week. Norfolk State’s Hadji Gaylord was selected as the Special Teams Player of the Week, respectively.

Davis (WR, 5-11, 177, r-So., Miami, Fla.) hauled in a career-best eight catches for a career-high 199 yards and two touchdowns in a come-from-behind win for the Wildcats over Grambling State. For Davis, the touchdown receptions were the first two of his career. His 28-yard pass reception for a touchdown, with 3:37 remaining in the game, allowed the Wildcats to secure a 49-46 lead, en route to the 56-53 final victory.

Colston (DB, 6-1, 190, Sr., Lakeland, Fla.) forced, recovered and returned a fumble 72 yards for a touchdown against Kent State. Also, he collected 15 total tackles, seven solo, and broke up one pass in the game.

Bowers (RB, 6-0, 180, Fr., St. Petersburg, Fla.) rushed for 144 yards on 10 attempts with one touchdown in the Rattlers’ matchup against Samford. His recorded a long run of 73 yards in his second collegiate contest.

Young (C, 6-1, 285, R-Jr., Atlanta, Ga.) received a grade of 95-percent on his blocking assignments and recorded three pancake blocks as the Pirate’s accounted for 337 yards of total offense against #22 Richmond.

Gaylord (DL, 6-3, 250, r-Fr, Norfolk, Va.) accounted for Norfolk States’ lone touchdown against Old Dominion following a blocked punt that he returned for a 32-yard touchdown in the second quarter.

Other Top Performances

Colby Blanton (FAMU) had 274 yards on six punts with a long of 61 yards against Samford. Also, he nailed three extra point attempts.

Brian Gentry (MSU) had four receptions for 55 yards against #4 Illiniois State, and was on the receiving end of a 17-yard TD pass from Seth Higgins, in his first collegiate start.

Christian Faber-Kinney (HAM) recorded four punts for 170 yards (42.5 avg.), with a long of 54-yards, including two inside the Richmond 20-yard line.

Javaunie Francis (B-CU) punted four times, for an average of 34.5 yards per kick, including a season-long 54 yarder against Grambling State. He also kicked off nine times for 445 yards, averaging 49.4 yards per kick.

Keavon Mitchell (B-CU) tallied a season-high six receptions for 85 yards and recorded 70 yards on three kickoff return attempts in the Wildcats 56-53 victory over Grambling State.

Diquan Richardson (B-CU) registered a game-high 11 tackles, seven solo, with one forced fumble in the win over Grambling State.

David Watford (HAM) led the Pirates offense with 239 yards passing, connecting with eight different receivers, with three touchdowns against Richmond. On the ground, he accounted for 31 yards on six attempts.
