Assistant athletic director of communications Bryan J. Harvey said in a phone call that athletic director Lynn Thompson will make the announcement about who will replace Brian Jenkins at 1 p.m. in the Harold V. Lucas Hall of Fame at the Larry R. Handfield Athletic Training Center. Jenkins left the school Tuesday to take the head coaching position at Alabama State.
Harvey did not confirm who the next coach will be, the paper said.
The school did seek permission to speak with Tennessee State head coach Rod Reed, Southern head coach Dawson Odums, Miami (Ohio) running backs coach Autry Denson and B-CU assistant Terry Sims.
Reed, however, signed a five-year contract extension to stay at Tennessee State.
After Jenkins officially accepted Alabama State’s offer, Thompson said the school would position itself to possibly name a new head coach within 72 hours.
