All winter sports teams at Southern University are under a postseason ban pending the submission of documentation to the NCAA regarding the school’s academic progress and graduation success rates, according to athletic director William Broussard during a Thursday press conference.
The issue focuses on the NCAA’s request for data from Southern which would detail the academic progress of its student athletes dating back to the 2009-10 academic year. It’s a process that’s even required Southern to provide information on student athletes in some cases as far back as 2003.
“The NCAA gave us prescribed deadlines to provide the information and to date we have met all of those deadlines, said Broussard. “We are reconciling any discrepancies with the subsequent reports that we are forwarding to them. ”
“The deadlines were set in such a fashion that if completed in the prescribed time the bans on postseason play could potentially be lifted before the start of the winter sports championship season, and we are working diligently with the NCAA with the hopes of that happening,” Broussard said.
