Former Southern standout and Pro Football Hall of Famer Aeneas Williams appeared on ESPN’s Real Talk with Jason Whitlock Thursday to talk about his recent induction, and shared an interesting story about joining the Jaguar football team during his junior year.
“It was a week before the season started,” Williams said. “You could just smell it. All of a sudden it entered into my heart to go and ask the coach if I could walk on. And he let me, and I ended up starting by the fifth game.”
Williams also discussed his struggles to make it in the NFL, shared his thoughts on Richard Sherman and Michael Sam.
On the importance of HBCUs.
“It’s about utilizing history,” Williams said. “It’s the reason history is so important because people have a sense of history. Southern University prepared me to compete anywhere. That’s the message we have to get out.”
