HOUSTON, Texas- The Prairie View A&M Panthers captured their weekend series against cross-town rival Texas Southern winning two out of three games at MacGregor Park on Saturday, March 22nd, and Sunday, March 23rd.After trailing for the majority of the contest during game three PVAMU erupted for eight runs in the top of the eighth to take a 9-8 advantage. Prairie View A&M held TSU scoreless in the bottom of the eighth and ninth innings. The Panthers added one more run to their scoring total in the top of the ninth inning bringing the score to 10-8 which would be the games final score.
With the win PVAMU returned to the .500 mark on the season with a 12-12 overall record and a 6-3 record in conference play. Myrio Richard finished the game with 1 RBI in three at bats while fellow teammate George McDonald reached home plate for two runs on two hits. Stedman Smith came up big for the Panthers tallying one run, one hit, and two RBI’s.
Conrad Limas was credited with the win while Mark Almaguer was given the save. The save was Almaguers first this season as he entered the contest and recorded PVAMU’s final four outs.
The Panthers will return to the diamond on Wednesday, March 26th as they travel to San Antonio, Texas to face the UTSA Roadrunners. The first pitch is scheduled to be thrown at 2:00 p.m.
Congrats to my “nephew” Stedman Smith on a great game against TxSU. Coach Cador at SU had the first chance to get this kid since his Dad is a SU alum. SU’s loss is definitely PV’s gain.
Kudos Stedman! Keep a clutch mindset. No matter what happens when, stay focused on the next pitch, whether you are in the box or in the field. I’m sure you will have many more days like this one, including a number of them that will be far better.
