NCAA Hirings, Firings And Retirings 2024-2025 Part 2

Has anyone heard that TnSt is looking to hire Reggie Barlow as football coach?
According to Football Scoop:

Multiple sources tell FootballScoop Thursday that Barlow is the top target in the search to replace Eddie George atop the Tennessee State football program.

After Zoom interviews earlier this week, TSU officials have hosted multiple candidates on the school's Nashville campus across the past 24 hours, several sources told FootballScoop.

Other candidates involved in the TSU search include FBS assistants and former high-level FCS head coaches, such as Alcorn State legend Fred McNair.

So he goes to a worst situation?

Even though that conference is really 3 teams deep. So given time he could own it but they have to be patience.

He knows the AD well - he gets a new contract and is back in the city - he's young to take on that type of gig - he probably has more resources ironically but he better get it all before football moves in

He'll be in a much better facility off the top

Oh....I think they know about him.....they just don't agree with hiring a black guy from a HBCU as head coach...
However, this hire can't be anymore risky than the last hire who had SEC pedigree and still was not successful...

The Auburn women's basketball team introduced Larry Vickers as their head coach down on The Plains. Vickers is a grad of Norfolk State University and had been the head coach of the Spartans WBB team for almost a decade. During that stretch, he won several MEAC Championships. Here's his full press conference.

Why the HBCU coach has to be a "risky hire"....

Because you got some folks who do NOT want a black man let alone a black man from a HBCU coaching the team.
Especially boosters and some parents of recruits and media.

Iowa hired a guy with only one year in D1. He had success in D2 with 4 national titles. He gets a power conference gig. Nobody is calling him a risky hire.

They as in mainstream folks - the diehards know but the average person doesn't so it's risky to them - WBB is the only sport where hbcu coaches can advance quickly

Because with women you have more stability. You are not battling the NBA or NFL or NIL.

They know about him… he beat them this year lol. Norfolk beat Auburn and Missouri this year.

Those in them circles definitely know about him

That's why they floated Thornton's name for the Arkansas job. Casuals don't know but those in the know definitely know

Basically… women are just different from men….
Alabama A&M's Otis Hughley Jr has resigned from his position as the men's head basketball coach at Alabama A&M. He spent three seasons with the Bulldogs.
