Hopson to USM

How did Alcorn set any trend? Coaches have been hired from the SWAC before. That school hasn't been on anyone's radar in two decades.

Dude, Alcorn made yall seek someone other than a recycled SWAC coach..the pressure was on yall......yet aint no winning coach from JSU never been sought after...

Prairie View will have an announcement Friday a.m. smh

Good luck to Alcorn St as they find a suitable replacement.

That's a lie. We've hired outside the Swac retread circles before. Had nothing to do with anything Alcorn

Heck even Old Man Jackson came from outside the swac. Lol. His experience was in the NFL and at Baylor/Kentucky.

Dude we were 2-2 against Hopson and that's with 2 years of Harold Jackson. Should've been 3-1. Doesn't matter who's coaching Alcorn because of If we are doing what we're supposed to do Alcorn doesn't matter. I hate Hopson left because I want a strong swac, but I still think USM made a mistake. Time will tell. Good luck finding a new coach.

@ATLBRAVE hughes pretty much had the job years ago until the Old Bengal Brigade cried to the moon (Admin) about Harold Jackson. So Hughes took a side seat and waited it out. Once Harold dropped the ball And was fired, Hughes became the man again & was hired. Alcorn losing to Senior Citizen Jackson had nothing to do with Hughes' hiring. Nice to know you're flattered by our hire though but YOU had nothing to do with it.

The Hiring Harold of Jackson had EVERYTHING to do with it. You sound dumb when you type angry.

While it's true Fred McNair has never been a Head Coach at the College Level, he does have the experience at the College Level under his belt now since being hired as Associate Head Coach. Plus Fred knows Alcorn thus he may be able to bring more in for Alcorn from a Microeconomics standpoint.

If Derek Horne is smart, he go ahead and promotes Fred as the Official Head Coach with Spring Football right around the corner. THIS IS WHY SPRING FOOTBALL IS IMPORTANT BTW FOR THOSE WHO SAY IT IS NOT!!!!

My Fear is Derek Horne transforming into another Crazy SWAC Athletic Director. I hope Fred wins so that doesn't give Derek Horne any opening in trying to hire someone else for right now.

To People Outside the State of Mississppi, Let me share a little secret with you, if you didn't already know:

You guys already know we hate Ole Piss right? But the FBS school in Mississippi that has always been the main thorn in JSU AND Alcorn's side (especially when it comes to recruiting) is USM. USM is the "Fake HBCU" of Mississippi.

Hopson was able to sway a lot of recruits from USM while he was at Alcorn because USM was just downright Horrible until recently. Alcorn took full Advantage of this. That is not the case anymore as Monken rebuilt USM to playing in the C-USA Championship Game in 2015.

The reason the arguments in this thread are mostly JSU vs. Alcorn, is because if Tony Hughes had gotten hired BEFOREHAND instead of Harold Jackson (during the Window Period USM was down), JSU too could have taken advantage of USM being down because Hughes is such a Great Recruiter. However, they weren't able to due to "OldHead Alumni". And now that Hughes is finally at JSU, it may be too little too late as JSU AND Alcorn will now have a competitive and winning USM to deal with.

It also doesn't help that Hopson will now have a larger budget and may sway JSU and Alcorn commits to sign to USM with signing day so close.

Do you think universities especially in the SWAC would be fearful now to hire white coaches because with any type of success they would bolt to a PWI if given the chance

Also don't know much about USM?football , but ummm.if Alcorn coach was black.and had success like Hopson would he have been in the running for the USM JOB
He didn't bolt for a pwi. he bolted for the HC job at a fbs school he has ties to. and oh, by the way which head coach in the swac wouldn't have taken the same job hobson took?... still waiting.... Erry one of them would be gone.
What I'm hearing from some of yall is you want a head coach that no one else will ever want and so he will never leave. that actually explains a lot of the problems with the conference. Some of you want your schools job to be the HC dream job. And while it might be the "dream job" for many, they also "dream" of having many zeros on their saving's balance statement. those two things often are not congruent.

Good programs will always find a way to get good talent. JSU has always recruited well, regardless of USMs status. If anything a good USM helps because they recruit better in places like Florida and Alabama. Alcorn may need a weak USM to recruit well but JSU does not.

Congrats to Hopson. I have been a fan of this guy for a long time. The day he was hired at Alcorn, I told fans that it would be a short period of time for him to have a winning season, and then compete for the SWAC title. I also explained how the man was loved by USM and Ole Miss and would get an FBS opportunity as soon as Alcorn looked like a force. Hopson will now take his dream job after he earned it. If he can pick up were Monkin left off at USM and move USM back to being a consistent top 25 program. Mississippi State and Ole Miss will give him a shot as soon as Freeze or Mullin fall off. (Although I believe that Hudspeth is State's coach in waiting.)

All this gleefulness that Hopson is gone from certain schools is too funny to me...The man did what I knew and said he would do come in the SWAC win in a very short time and leave...Atlanta Brave I understood what you were saying about setting a trend the trend, for those of you who pretend not to understand was in hiring a White Head Coach something most of ya'll frown upon at the time know what was coming next those ass whoopings and championships because the man was good at and worked hard at his craft and knew how to out coach and out recruit the retread coaches the SWAC is use to...I want one of those white coaches at Texas Southern and said so to my AD before hiring Assdumb, but it would have been hard to get a quality white coach at that time with our restrictions in place...Alcorn ya'll did good in that hire got something out of it and was not left with NCAA violations in the process

Congrats, to Coach Hopson. Alcorn fans should be proud about the job he has done, but most coaches has dreams of moving up and making more money. If anything, this puts Alcorn in position to still get USM transfers because of the relationship they have with Hopson. Good coaches get opportunities and bad ones do not. Alcorn, you all still should be in position to battle for conference championships because Hopson changed the culture and players should expect to win now, which in the past was not the case. SWACLOVE

Well, Jay found a better paying job. Who can knock any coach for that? He left his last job in far better shape than he got it when it comes to the facilities and the product on the field. Hell, if it takes going outside the box to pull off another back to back SWAC championship run then I'm on board. Who can turn down a raise over $600k? Hell majority of y'all would move on to another job for a $6k raise.

Only a fool would go to the administration and request they hire a white head coach. I meant really ...and then You put that dumb shit in bold font.

Only a fool would not request the best man for the job. Hell black, white, yellow, green it shouldn't matter. But you really didn't understand the logic DCG was talking bout. I forgot your school ran off a hell of a coordinator in the early 90's because he was white. You just don't know better.

1. Shannon left JSU for a better job in 2001. He wasn't run off.

2. There is no logic in requesting a white head coach. None whatsoever. DCG said that's what she specifically wanted - not the best man for the job but a white man. Ignorance at its best.

3. I think you're stuck in a mindset that believes Hopson was great for Alcorn in part because he's white. That's dumb as hell and self defeating.

4. I can understand you being upset because basically the best fit you'll ever have as HC just walked away from you the weekend before signing day. Damn shame - it's another 20 years of wandering in the wilderness.

Race had nothing to do with Hopson being a good coach on the SWAC level. We have seen good and bad coaches win SWAC titles! I don't know why dome folks around here are acting like winning titles is something new. Hopson will now get a chance to prove himself as a FBS coach.
