Arkansas-Pine Bluff track and field athlete Caleb Snowden is one step away from securing a spot in the 2024 Olympics following his performance in the high jump opening round at the Olympic trials.

After missing his first two jump attempts at 2.19m, Snowden successfully landed his third attempt to secure one of the necessary top 12 spots to move on to the finals.

The SWAC’s reigning indoor and outdoor high jump champion came into the Olympic trials after finishing third at the NCAA championships after jumping 2.23m.

Snowden was the only HBCU athlete to finish in the top three in an individual event at the Division I Track & Field Championships.

He is one of four HBCU athletes who competed in this year’s NCAA Division I Track & Field Championships and is also vying for a spot on this year’s Olympic team at the U.S. Olympic Trials.

Snowden will look to punch his ticket to Paris in the high jump finals set for this Sunday at 6:30 p.m.
