BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alcorn State forward Deshaw Andrews has been named SWAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week following outstanding performances versus Mississippi Valley State and Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

Andrews led Alcorn State to a 2-0 week on the road by averaging 24.0 points per game. Both of Alcorn State’s wins were convincing with a 105-73 victory over MVSU, followed by an 82-54 win over UAPB.

The York, South Carolina native turned in a career night against the Golden Lions with a career-high 30 points. That performance came after he scored 18 points against Mississippi Valley State on Saturday.

Andrews was a scorching hot 9-for-12 from three-point range in the two games and 9-for-10 from the free-throw line. He shot 15-for-23 (.652) from the field. Alcorn State has won three consecutive games, and also three straight road contests.

Tobi Ewuosho (ASU) led Alabama State to its first road win of the season and its second conference win with a 65-56 victory over in-state rival Alabama A&M on Saturday. The senior converted on all six of his free throws to help key the Hornets to victory; while leading the team in scoring, rebounding and assists in the game.
