Sources tell HBCU Sports Boyd passed away in a car accident in nearby Ruston, Louisiana Friday.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of our former women’s basketball student-athlete and GSU alumna, Jazmin Boyd,” Tigers athletic director Trayvean Scott said in a statement.  “Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends, teammates and all who were touched by her remarkable life.” We ask for everyone to keep the Boyd family in your prayers during this very difficult time.”

Boyd played for the Tigers from 2015-2019, averaging 12 points and 3 rebounds per game. Boyd was a part of the 2017-18 Grambling team that defeated No. 2 Texas Southern and and No. 1 Southern on back-to-back nights to win their first Southwestern Athletic Conference tournament title since 1999.

She scored a team-high 19 points in the 66-59 SWAC semifinal win over Texas Southern and led the team in scoring with 20 points in their NCAA tournament first round loss to Baylor.
