Netflix’s UNTOLD documentary series will return this summer with an episode about the murder of former HBCU football and NFL great Steve McNair.
The episode, part of a three-series slate, will air Aug. 20 with the premiere of UNTOLD: The Murder of Air McNair, directed by Rodney Lucas and Taylor Alexander Ward.
McNair, a three-time Pro Bowler and 2003 co-MVP, was shot and killed by Sahel “Jenni” Kazemi, his 20-year-old mistress, on July 4, 2009. Kazemi shot McNair while he was asleep on her couch and then shot herself in the head in a murder-suicide.
McNair played for the Tennessee Titans from 1995 to 2005 and the Baltimore Ravens from 2006 to 2007. Following his death, the Titans held a two-day memorial for McNair and retired his No. 9 jersey.
McNair first gained national acclaim after finishing third for the Heisman Trophy in 1994 while at Alcorn State. The College Football Hall of Fame inductee completed his collegiate career with 14,496 passing yards and 119 touchdowns. He also amassed 2,327 yards rushing and 33 touchdowns on the ground.
McNair is the only player in SWAC history to be named SWAC Offensive Player of the Year and to the first-team All-SWAC lists every season in his career.
