NORFOLK, Va.— Morgan State senior Chelsea Mitchell and North Carolina Central senior Paulina Afriyie were selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women’s Basketball Co-Players of the Week, the conference office announced today. Coppin State’s Alexandria Hamilton was named Rookie of the Week, while Norfolk State redshirt senior Chanette Hicks earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Mitchell (G, 5-9, Sr., Columbia, Md.) averaged a double-double as Morgan State opened conference play this past week, going for 23.0 points and 15.5 rebounds per game. She opened with 25 points and 15 rebounds – to go along with three steals and a block – on Saturday at Delaware State, before turning in a 21-point, 16-rebound effort on Monday against South Carolina State. For the week, Mitchell was a combined 19-for-36 (.528) from the floor.

Afriyie (F, 5-11, Sr., Bronx, N.Y.) hit nine of her 12 field goals – and six of her nine free throws – on Saturday, as the Eagles opened conference play with a win over Florida A&M. In that contest Afriyie dropped 24 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and blocked four shots.

Hamilton (G, 5-7, Fr., Columbus, Ohio) was a combined 8-for-18 (.444) from the floor in three games this past week, recording double-digit points in two of those contests. She opened the week with 10 points and a pair of steals against Dayton, before turning in a 13-point, 4-rebound, 3-assist, 2-steal effort in the Eagles’ conference opener against South Carolina State.

Hicks (G, 5-6, r-Sr., Norfolk, Va.) averaged 6.0 steals per game as Norfolk State opened conference play this past week with wins over Bethune-Cookman and Coppin State – allowing just 49.5 points per game in those two contests. She grabbed seven steals in Saturday’s win over the Wildcats, before hitting the road on Monday to snatch five steals against the Eagles.

Other Top Performers
Ashanti Hunt (B-CU) had three steals and two blocks in a win over Howard.

Amaya Scott (B-CU) dropped 21 points and dished out six assists against Howard, and also had a double-double (14 points, 10 rebounds) at Norfolk State.

Chance Graham (CSU) grabbed 11 boards against Norfolk State, and had 10 rebounds and three steals against South Carolina State.

Aliyah Lawson (CSU) dropped 19 points against Dayton and had a 15-point game against Norfolk State.

Tierra Floyd (DSU) recorded a double-double (10 points, 12 rebounds) against Morgan State.

Jasmine Ballew (FAMU) dropped 20 points against North Carolina Central.

Alaina Rice (FAMU) had 13 points against North Carolina Central.

Krislyn Marsh (HOW) blocked three shots against Maryland Eastern Shore and averaged 9.0 rebounds in two contests.

Ayonna Williams (HOW) dropped 24 points against Bethune-Cookman after recording a double-double (13 points, 10 rebounds) against Maryland Eastern Shore.

Ja’Niah Henson (MSU) had 11 points on 5-for-9 shooting against South Carolina State.

C’coriea Foy (NCAT) had 19 points, seven rebounds and five assists against Florida A&M, hitting four 3-pointers.

Jayla Jones-Pack (NCAT) had 11 rebounds and two steals against Florida A&M.
