After much speculation about what could be next for Jackson State women’s basketball coach Tomekia Reed, there is finally an answer.
The former four-time SWAC Coach of the Year is on her way to the American Athletic Conference to take over as the head coach of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Reed leaves the Tigers after a six-season stint in which she led the team to a 125-54 overall record, including a 95-10 record in conference play.

In the last five seasons, Jackson State finished with an 83-4 conference record, posting undefeated marks in two of the last three seasons and winning the conference tournament in three of the past four seasons.
She also coached two players who went on to be selected in the WNBA Draft (Ameshya Williams-Holliday in 2022 and Angel Jackson in 2024).
Shortly after her contract expired at the end of the 2024 season, Jackson State reportedly was preparing to extend Reed an offer to stay.
