William & Mary to name Mike London new head coach

We knew he wouldn't stay at Howard long but it must have been a significant pay raise to go to another FCS job (even if they are considered a "higher level")

True. Especially given the season they had last year. Pay is one thing. But some coaches need to know what kind of commitment a school is going to make to the program. I'm sure London appreciates that Howard gave him a chance, and London, in return, did his best for Howard. But both sides had to have known that if London had any modicum of success that other schools would come calling.

Yes, he beat UNLV and almost pulled off another upset against Kent State on last year. Also, he should've beat Ohio on this year. But, they came up short. So, he did pretty good for his first two years.

Honestly, he wasn't going to stay around for the long haul.

Wow.

They sure go running when them other folks call

London already had Richmond rolling in his career. He wants to compete for the FCS National Championship since he can’t currently compete for a FBS Championship. He knows that he can’t do that at Howard. He told the Howard gig to make some noise and let folks know that had some coaching juice if they were interested. Once W&M start winning a significant amount of games along with scaring FBS programs in Virginia again, he will ditch them to move back up to FBS. I have a feeling that his next gig will be at a program like Marshall or another C-USA/MAC program.

Its funny how PWIs will overlook race to hire who they feel is a winner but many of our schools won't...

I don’t know about that either. If that was the case, we would see much more FBS programs with black head coaches. HBCU’s try to keep it in the family to continue to give black men chances at a dream. Just like PWI’s, a coach if a different ethnicity usually gets a shot when it’s time to go for the Hail Mary! Black coaches usually get the worst jobs available in the FBS ranks.

See the Texas State coach. He left a FBS-lite job at JMU to take the FBS job and got canned after 3 years.

Just because it's FBS doesn't mean it's a better job. It took Dino Babers 3 years to make Syracuse a good team (and he most likely will be lured away by a bigger P5 school). Before then, SU football was hit and mostly miss.

Thats not true. These schools have or had black head coaches...

Texas A&M
STANFORD
Vanderbilt
Penn State
Oregon
Florida State
Syracuse
Illinois
Arizona State

Come on @Basebone1898 you know thats false.

HBCUs have never been exclusive based on race. Grambling had a white player long before Alabama and most of the SEC had a black player.

Which is why a couple of our schools need to be FBS. The literally would become a factory for black head coaches, forcing pwi's to hire them away b/c they don't want to get beat by them.

I know there are some stories, but that’s a very small list my brother. Think about the number of FBS programs that are out here. Thank about how many black kids are busting their tails and puttin in work vs the percentage of black coaches. How many black coaches have each of them had? Many of those situations were “we are desperate/we have nothing to lose” hires. Besides Stanford’s second black hire, and Florida States’s first, many of those positions where “desperate to win” or “the equal right hand is on our campus this week” hire.
