I'm trying to figured out how he came to that conclusion too. Especially with houston being one of the largest if not the largest SU alumni base city in the country. Not to menation if memory serves me wel, he couldn't make the game because of the big freeze in dallas. lol....

Man Gram pulls this attendance shit ALLLLLL all the time. Over the years Gram has always been a let down with attendance In 2000 and 2001 that was the Bamas first year and they packed the stadium. 2007 JSU carried the crowd outnumbering Gram nearly 3-1. 2015 they showed up barely but the canceled R. Kelly concert factors in as well. First the excuse for the low attendance used to be the Bayou Classic and now it's "we were waiting to go to Atlanta." Y'all need to quit with the excuses with the low fan support in the SCG. History does not lie....

2 things a lot of people have to keep in mind. Alcorn did have 2 advantages for the fan base.
(1) Two weeks to save up
(2) The average Alcorn/JSU family spent about ¼ of what Grambling and Southern had spent. (Bayou Classic vs. Soul Bowl).
Saving up for the Celebration Bowl was an excuse as for not showing up for the game. You wasn’t guaranteed to beat Alcorn expecially with Alcorn getting a lot of players back that we didn’t have against rest of our SWAC opponents. We might have had a 5-5 record, but the only team that beat us convincingly was Arkansas. Our defense shut yall down for 2.5 quarters at Grambling until they got tired of the offense not doing anything. Southern lost to us 56-16 at Alcorn in 2014. Did that stop them from coming to the 2014 SCG. They were at the game in droves and on our side drunk and talking sh%t . We knew we were going to drag yall up and down the field in the 2015 SCG because yall defense was very suspect. Did that stop us from going to the game last year. It made yall go out and get all of them transfers/quick fixes. The only thing I hope is that yall go to the Celebration Bowl and yall fans show up. Because if they don’t it is going to get ugly on this board.

It still shows when the game was in your own backyard, y'all didn't go to the game. So I'll take that 25K in the big city with plenty of things to do than go to Birmingham with nothing to do.

Why does this appear to upset you so much? Nobody is on here disputing that Alcorn fans outnumbered Gram fans, this year or last. Nobody in here is using an "excuse" for attendance. Why is it so difficult to accept the idea that folks will not spend money on an event if they don't think it's worth their money?
If it makes you feel good to say that Gram folks only showed up last year because of the R. Kelly concert, and to completely ignore what BOTH teams brought to the table so be it. But then you be lying to yourself. Alcorn entered that game 8-3, Grambling 9-2. As a result, the attendance was what it was...40,352. It was an attractive product.
This year Grambling enters the SCG with a 9-1 record to play a .500 Alcorn team entering the game with a 5-5 record. And based on all of the media reports, the Braves enter the contest a HUGE underdog. That is not as attractive of a match-up as the year before, and the numbers showed that. Your very own Alcorn folks didn't show up like they did last year or the year before...I wonder why that was?
With all of that said, I will address the "Bayou Classic excuse". And if any of you have been to a Bayou Classic, you'd know it isn't cheap if you are an out-of-towner. To spend all of that money for tickets, hotel, food and whatever else comes with it, is expensive. To have to turn around the following week to go to the SCG...that is a tall order for some. And everyone isn't going to support the SCG like the BC. As significant as the SCG is, it still isn't equal to the BC. And while it is true that SU folks show up in big numbers when they play in the SCG, they too don't show up for it like they do for the BC. It's no different for Grambling folks. And if anyone disputes this...you too would be lying to yourself.
BTW - More people showed up for the BC this year than last...I wonder why that was?

See Kenn, the excuses you give here are killing me. Gram has a history of not showing up. This is not a "this year's matchup" or "Bayou Classic excuse". This is Gram not showing up at the SCG period. And "this year's matchup" has nothing to do with it.
I know how large the BC is because have attended the BC as I have also attended many other SWAC classics and the one thing about the BC that Gram and SU fans know 20 years in advance is when it takes place. So you know when it is and how much money is needed far in advance. New Orleans is high as ish for that game even more than the Sugar Bowl but you already know this 15 years in advance. It's no new bill it's the same bill. So how can you keep saying how high it is when you know years in advance how much it is? Save up and support the team.
Now you come at Alcorn with the 5-5 record and how many fans we had to not show. I would truly look at things differently if a huge underdog brought TWICE as many fans as the iconic favorite in the game. See attendance is money from sponsors for the SCG and you know this as a reporter. If the attendance falls at these events we begin to lose sponsorship and that is lost money for the parties involved. Didn't the BC lose sponsorship because of falling attendance? Ijs.
So my biggest thing is not the outcome of the game but the support for your team and the SWAC brand as a whole. I'm still going to the Celebration Bowl to support the SWAC brand. So if Gram is the "Icon" of the SWAC represent with a fan base that will show up to support the team no matter what. And as I pointed out, this isn't new Gram has a history of this. So don't blame Alcorn for y'all not showing up, cause you did do it.
On another note I noticed the SWAC switched sides for each division this year at NRG stadium. Guess they knew in advance how many empty seats would be on the western side and they switched it up. Alcorn had the side the cameras were pointed at this year.
Uhhhh....Yeah...OK. Now that you've figure us Grambling folks out, what was Alcorn's "excuse for not supporting the SCG like they did the last two years again? Since I'm making "excuses" for Grambling folks (which I have not), what's Alcorn's excuse?

See that's where you lose the argument. At least with Alcorn record you would have a few fans not to show but what about Gram? Again Gram has a history of this. Fact not fiction. Why not come and celebrate a for sure win while cheering the team? Alcorn were lambs being led to slaughter let everyone say it before the game, yet we had great support. And Gram reason for the dismal support is...........that is what they do, not show up. Man I thought it was bad in 2007 with JSU when y'all pull that no show. JSU had yall damn near 4-1 ratio. But this game was worst in my book.
And even with fewer fans y'all STILL didn't match us. I mean all Gram fans had to do was match the number of fans we had and we would not be here talking about attendance. So I will now do the waiting game cause y'all better show up and show out in the ATL. And showing up in the ATL full of Gram fans and not people from other SWAC schools showing SWAC love.
So when people get on Gram about the attendance in the SCG, you all should just take it for what it is due to fact....Gram doesn't attend the SCG well. It's not like people are making false statements, it's true. People just get tired of y'all giving excuses for not showing up.
