SWAC OFFICE CAN LEARN VALAUBLE LESSONS FROM SU AND PV

I'm sure that if the officials at the SWAC weren't stuck in their regressive mentality that things could happen for the best. Regardless of what happened several years ago, this incident is a prime example on why national media outlets don't take HBCU's seriously and sit back and say "Here's another situation live from the land of the porch monkeys!" I know it was something that took place on the outside of the stadium but the story still got some national run but it was all due to our (black folks) actions. With the majority of media outlets having conservative right-wing backbones, there's no surprise that they would want to ride the coat tail of this bullisht story.

Unfortunately that's correct. I'm sure that the Montgomery Biscuit owners would be more than happy to work with the conference on hosting the SWAC tournament. As far as the AHSAA goes, they didn't have to pay for anything to host the tourney at their place. The ticket sale revenue agreement took care of that.

High schools in Alabama have figured it out. Why can't we?

BLESS YOU!!!

...still can't figure how people would not want better for their schools and conference. There should be no argument.

Oh, how I wish y'all (PV) had won that dayumed game! I really believe we would have been (temporarily) spared all this diatribe ...until something else for y'all to whine about came along!

:smh: :smh: :smh:
Please stop wasting bandwidth. :|

The outcome of the game has nothing to do w/ what I'm referring to. Playing near/in/around/above/across from/near/* a bunch of damn backwoods ass people SHOOTING GUNS AROUND FUTURE doctors, lawyers, engineers , ... from my university is what has me livid. Maybe you and yours grew up around BS like that. If so, sorry for ya'. Can't even 1/1000 of the way relate. :|

Re-read this ^^^^^^^^^^^^^ again if you do not understand for the 10th time already. :retard:

Because a few of the Bamas are so blinded by state pride and the inferiority complex that runs rampant in that state, 'doing better' is perceived as an attack.

Yall reaching too much.... high school baseball in Alabama is HUGE.... stadiums at these white schools would kill alot of SWAC school stadiums.. they have a FAN BASE and major booster clubs...which brings in money.. Not even SU has a REAL baseball fan base when it comes to baseball.

Dahill...You are STILL missing it. We are using stuff for free and still going broke. They are using stuff for free, and making a profit. Doesn't take a genius to figure out that there is a divide there. If you're not paying expenses to use the place, and you generate revenue.....I'll just stop here...

I know for a fact Houston made a very good offer to the SWAC, including office space free of charge. The venue's to play the championship might not have been free, however corporate sponsors where lined up to absorb the majority of that cost.

Houston, however presents the same logistic problem. It is at one end of the conference.

To be honest, I could care less where a BASEBALL tournament is.... but how much money did it bring in Houston last year? This is baseball. It could have been at the Hoover Met and people still would have complained. The basketball tournament was held at the BJCC, an 18,000 seat arena that has hosted NCAA regionals, SEC championships, and people STILL complained.

*listening to the thundering herd of feets about to walk all up and down this comment* lmao@S96!

uh-oh!!!!! :uhoh:

Seriously, this is highly unacceptable=> www.wafb.com. The way that sports announcer starts to laugh when starting the report just sez it all. Not that he really matters or anything, but still... In this case, he wasn't wrong w/ his laughter. :| :shame:

Every year folks complain about where the various championships are held. Like I said, you can't please everyone.

This is the DEFENITIVE statement for this whole worthless exchange. Kellis summed it up as far as I'm concerned.

You PV folks continue to balk back and forth among yourselves if that makes you feel better...at least until it's time for the next championship game or tournament.

:smh:

I could have sworn I said the same thing days ago. Houston, however much I like it, is in the same boat as B-ham. That's why I have said all along that this is not about Houston. Think how many more of the average fans (read $$$) they would have gotten for the final SU/PV games alone had the games been centrally located. It is much more feasible for a Houstonian, Baton Rouge native, Beaumont, Houma, etc., to drive to NO, Shreveport, hell even Jackson (since the hood don't matter) than to drive ALL the way to B-Ham to see SU and PV play. Same would go for an AAMU-ASU game in Houston.

Funny isn't it? :shame: :slap:

Because they are not COMPLAINING... they show up to games.... if so many poeple stopped complaining and supported the game then WE WOULDN NOT BE BROKE.

They have been too busy "bytchin'" to see that the great majority of folks could careless where a baseball tournament is!

And if you all think this is simply about baseball, then the education system in Alabama must be worser than I thought.

It's about baseball until football season starts. Then you (and others) will begin your annual whine about the SCG.

Lawd, when have we EVER seen this much posting from PV folks? Oh how I wish y'all coulda won that game...I really do! :(

However, the SWAC office can learn some valuable lessons from this incident at its summer meetings this week and move forward. Here are some of the things that might be discussed based on first hand reports of people I talked to, who (both PV and SU) who actually attended the game.

1. The Baseball Tourneyment was well conceived but poorly organized. Fans said there was no support by the city of Birmingham and no media coverage by the city until the shooting. Commish Vowels and his staff did a poor job of publicising the game. There were no local media coverage, game programs, rosters, or brackets for fans buy or to see.

2. The field was in good shape, but the stadium seats looked like they hadn't been cleaned in years. Dust and dirt had caked up on the stadium seats. Someone should have cleaned them before expecting fans to sit there.

3. The safety issued and when to suspend a game really needs to be looked at and discussed by the conference. Safety should always come first, but some fools or kids could always shoot off a round or two in the air or light a firecracker. PV coach did the right thing in pulling his team for safety reasons if he didn't know what was going on. However to suspend a game until the next day after the all clear has been given by the cops sets a bad example. It gives power to the fools who then think they can stop a game at any time. I remember an SEC game once where there was a fire outside the stadium and they just kept on playing (lol) .

4. Lastly, the SWAC Office needs to just break down and admit that the only way they are ever going to make any money off of one of these chamionships is to put the game in a SWAC city where at least one of the top contenders resides. Hell, just do a coin flip or let a cities bid on getting it.

5. After this incident, do they really think fans ever want come back to Birmingham now or for any kind of SWAC Championships.

I guess this is a bitter PV poster too, huh? Let's stick to the point of this. If this tourney was in Timbuktu, it was poorly organized, at best. As long as people have to traverse half the United States to catch the games, whether they are TRUE fans or not, these tourney's will not get the maximum support.

And Thames is right. It's not the SWAC's fault this incident happened. But it IS the SWAC's name that will be forever associated with this, and it's sickening.

So there was an actual "plan" or "strategy". Two words that are not in the vocabulary of the SWAC administrative office.

Let me say this and then I'm through.

If you were broke and homeless, do you think anybody would let you test drive their Lambo knowing that you can't purchase it? (BTW, they don't let you test drive them, because the attitude is if you have the money you don't need to. You know the quality already, this ain't a Saturn )

If you were broke, do you really think that someone would waste their time showing you a million dollar house when it's common knowledge you can't pay for it?

Common sense tells me that I work with what I have. Common sense tells me that I shouldn't pay for a venue when I can't get enough people to show up in the first place to break even when I'm broke.

With most of the mentalities that have been displayed. The SWAC should write bad checks for facilites that no one would actually come to.

Just because you are there, doesn't mean that everyone else wants to be there.

What would you do differently and how would you pay for it?
