How long should "historical" passes be issued just because you were there 85 years ago?

Especially considering your recent "performance" (recent meaning the last 20 or 30 years)

I guess with you all being the "NEW" kids on the block, it's a concept that's difficult to grasp.

You hear that perennial overall dominant Southern University? The SUccess of the overall athletic programme means diddly-ad-squat to most in this conference. There are only 2 sports that matter- football/basketball. :retard: Guess that mentality is alive and well in the academia faction too (only 2 majors matter lmao!!!!!!!!!!!!). Guess that's why y'all been kicking EVERYBODY's azz w/ respect to the Commish Cup. :retard:
damn Panthro
Never thought I'd see the day when you resort to attempting to ride SU's nutts like that. Damn, mh never meant for that to happen. :scared:

Some of us aspire to higher aspirations to be competitive in everything. Don't care if it's tiddly-winks. Ditto for academia. :D Instead of concentrating on just 2 sports. :retard: That mentality is highly evident when one looks @ this past season's baseball standings. :retard: Obviously quite a few don't care. :retard:
You're right. Quite a few don't care.
Obviously, you PV folks don't. Your yearly "non"results speak volumes.

btw, in the course of a sports discussion, when you come up short (and we all know PV comes up wayyyyyyy short), you try to divert to "academia".
Sheesh, I guess the MEAC doesn't have a lock on that one.

carry on....

I differ mon frere. Comprehension of a hornet would be more appropriate. :nod2: :goodbad:

Now, what about the SWAC choices for facilities again?

This is very, very serious to us PVers. lol You see, we have (had) the type of president that if murder, rape, pillaging, monkeyian behavior, stupidity, .... types of environments were welcoming us, our prezzy would (prolly will) cancel the deal. :| Str8 up. HE is ultimately responsible for EVERYONE's safety. No one else. Those past 2 (Becton/Hines) were MUCH worse than the current. If Becton had caught wind of gunplay near our players, we'd had been on the bus BACK that night NEVER to return. That was his mentality and I agree w/ it 101%. Play your OWN game in your OWN hood if that is what you are accustomed to.

As an alum and staunch supporter of PV, I'm highly offended. :| Couldn't have been any kid of mine on the field of play when that occurred. I'd still be in Wright's ass over this.

And you're the one who has NEVER said anything of substance since you've been here.

but I digress though,

because according to tbf's "logic", you shouldn't say anything (seeing that you're from PV)

Mighty Hornet and AAMU Alum....

So how long should we continue to endanger our players and fans at a 'historical' place because it's free? If you are gonna apply that twisted logic, apply it across the board and not only when it suits your argument.

#1, I ride PV's nutts. That's what my degrees say. ;) #2, whether you or anyone likes it or not, SU is the standard that MOST of us are trying to get to. They are the CURRENT measuring stick for O-V-E-R-A-L-L programme SUccess. Nobody can refute that. If not, show us those figures for the most commish cups, etc siince it started? Just stating fact.

I was making a point about overall vs concentrating on just 2 MH (I know you know that). :) I don't do the diverting thing. The overall args were w/ respect to the SWAC's choices for venues. Somehow, we (whomever WE IS lmao!) durnt' got off into PV's records, PV's stadium, PV's this, PV's that.... :retard:

You fought the good fight (c. 2005 Panthro). But instead of jumping up from the mat all wobbly legged and tryna' beat your chest etc, just go sit in the corner and wait for the doctor (commish vowels) to confirm that you got roasted w/ a left hook. :retard:. The fight is over.

The SWAC has made some seriously ugly decisions and that is what makes the SWAC look bush-league/hood. :| Bottom line.

I have never said you should EVER endager the players, fans
but I'm smart enough to know that you don't go changing everything anytime something happens
If that was the case, if I didn't want the tourney in Houston (or anywhere else), all I do is just fire gunshots somewhere in the vicinity of the stadium and folks will be calling for a new location.

I'd given you more credit than this. Obviously, I shouldn't have. You PV folks were complaining about this tournament long before any shots rang out. The band fan was doing his usual whiiiiiiiiining when the announcement was made as to the location of the tournament, so don't come now and pretend that someone is dismissing the stupid act of violence that took place in the vicinity of the tournament locale. On the same hand, don't act like you all are immune to it, either. Hell, you are from Houston, and I'm sure that shots ring out on more than a few occasions around your parks, baseball fields, etc.

As I told you, I didn't give a hoot in hell where the tournament was played. Y'all (PV) have something to stick your chests out about, and trust me I'm happy for you.

Uh, Panthro, don't sink to that level. You needn't kiss up to SU. Trust me, they will be back here soon enough taking shots at you for your perenniallly desolate place in football (and just about everything else) before you know it. Had you by some chance beaten them in B'ham, they'd be here cracking you about it now. Please believe that!

Throw the gunshots out, and you have WAYYYYY more than just PV people complaining. Have you been reading this entire thing? A one man grounds crew? Dusty, dirty seats? Tournament organization? What does ANY of that have to do with PV or Houston?

Looks like I gave YOU too much credit.

MH, I understand your point, and agree to an extent. But ALL of this is not just about the gunshots. That was just the icing on the cake.

welll, ummm
actually Alum....
PV lost.
:(

LOL

hopefully, they can get to their feet "all wobbly legged" and "just go sit in the corner"
They should be used to it.

and it was some of the same folks biatching and moaning because the softball tournament was held in Itta Bena. Atleast in Itta Bena it was thouroughly supported.

That's just the point, DGTM! Some will "beech" about the games regardless of where they are played. If they can't watch from their homes, and have windows where they can see from their bathrooms when they're "sheetin'" they whine and cry like harpies!!

Like kellis said, some just simply will not be satisfied. Maybe if PV had won the game, we wouldn't be hearing the cries. Oh, how I wish they would have!

:smh:

DAYUM....you people really CAN'T READ, can you? If this would have happened in Houston, I would have complained. If PV wasn't even involved, it would have been complained about. I know y'all don't like PV, but DAYUM. This is SADDER than sad.

The SWAC BASEBALL tourney is history and thanks God none of our athletes, players, coaches or fans were hurt. The game film has been picked up by the national media, and through no fault of our own, negative images of the conference have been put out there. However, congratulations to both champion Southern University and Prarie View for representing their schools well in a record setting 15 inning championship baseball game.

There will always be different versions of what happened that night because of the shooting. PV will have their version an SU will have theirs. No matter how much SMACK is talked between the two schools, that won't change.

However, the SWAC office can learn some valuable lessons from this incident at its summer meetings this week and move forward. Here are some of the things that might be discussed based on first hand reports of people I talked to, who (both PV and SU) who actually attended the game.

1. The Baseball Tourneyment was well conceived but poorly organized. Fans said there was no support by the city of Birmingham and no media coverage by the city until the shooting. Commish Vowels and his staff did a poor job of publicising the game. There were no local media coverage, game programs, rosters, or brackets for fans buy or to see.

2. The field was in good shape, but the stadium seats looked like they hadn't been cleaned in years. Dust and dirt had caked up on the stadium seats. Someone should have cleaned them before expecting fans to sit there.

3. The safety issued and when to suspend a game really needs to be looked at and discussed by the conference. Safety should always come first, but some fools or kids could always shoot off a round or two in the air or light a firecracker. PV coach did the right thing in pulling his team for safety reasons if he didn't know what was going on. However to suspend a game until the next day after the all clear has been given by the cops sets a bad example. It gives power to the fools who then think they can stop a game at any time. I remember an SEC game once where there was a fire outside the stadium and they just kept on playing (lol) .

4. Lastly, the SWAC Office needs to just break down and admit that the only way they are ever going to make any money off of one of these chamionships is to put the game in a SWAC city where at least one of the top contenders resides. Hell, just do a coin flip or let a cities bid on getting it.

5. After this incident, do they really think fans ever want come back to Birmingham now or for any kind of SWAC Championships.

This does put a negative light on the SWAC in all. It seems like the conference gets lackadaisical (sp) when it comes to spring sports. We all know that football is king at any college or university but other sports besides basketball gets a bum rap.The SWAC office does a horrible job of promoting the baseball program and whatever other sport takes place during the current season. That's why when the isht hits the fan during an event sponsored by the conference that the national media is going to sink their teeth, claws and all to expose the classless incidents for all the world to see.

The PV coach should be commended for his quick judgement in a situation like this. No need for those guys on either side to be exposed to that climate. I've read some of the different posts on this subject and I can't believe how historical values seem to be more important than the safety of those in attendance. Which would you rather have? Historical preservation or a player, coach or fan to be permanantly preserved in history when getting capped by a foolish mofo??

If the SWAC decides that they want to move the baseball tournament and if they want to keep it in Alabama, I know a great place. Call the Montgomery Biscuits minor league baseball office and work a deal with those cats to host the event at Riverwalk Stadium which is fairly new. It's a great ballpark that has the latest amenties and it has a capacity to hold more than enough folks that come out to the SWAC baseball tournament. There's no need to worry about security either because there's a police sub-station based at the stadium and there's plenty of patrols going to and fro. They hosted this years AHSAA baseball championships just last week and they're getting ready to host the NCAA Division II baseball tournament all week long. Hotel accomodations are very convenient with the Embassy Suites being next door along with several other hotels that are within a short driving distance from the stadium.

Finally,

Someone with enough common sense to wade through the mountain of BS in this thread and see the issue. This gunshot fiasco is getting us ridiculed on EVERY local station in a LOT of cities, as well as laughed at on CNN and other national news outlets. What PV has to do with that, other than the fact that they were playing in the game, is beyond me.

Think about it.

Another asinine, pointless statement that has NOTHING to do with the topic at hand...But it wasn't unexpected.
