SWAC OFFICE CAN LEARN VALAUBLE LESSONS FROM SU AND PV

2004 baseball - PV was not involved and it was only 4 teams so you were missing a few hundred fans that would've pushed the thing over the 1,000 mark..

fast forward to 2005 - 6 teams involved and 2 were Texas teams and 2 teams (ASU/SU) has plenty of Texans on the roster while 1 (MVSU) has a lot of Californians on the roster which makes it easier to fly in

if the tournament was in Houston and the same scenario set out like it did in B-Ham...record crowds at best.....

judging by the interest on the blackcollege baseball board and the 200 posts on this board, you can't tell me people don't care about baseball?

Bama folks act like us Texans don't do research......polled all the coaches...it ain't going back there....sorry...

the SWAC didn't even charge ADMISSION....what does that tell you about the tournament?

and 5K for a basketball game with two rivals? :lmao:

that's worth 10K in Houston.......we got that at a REGULAR SEASON game

SMH... funny coming from you...when have you made it out of Texas besides band lol.... and last time I checked Louisiana was past Mississippi... you dont even want to go there.... I would BET you I have been to more NON AAMU SWAC events than you have been to none PV SWAC events... and Texas SO next door doesnt count... closest SWAC school to AAMU is Bama State and that is 3 hours away...

Quite a few times. :) (I was just pickin at ya man....BTW, check ya voice-mail).

My point is, this is about much more than baseball OR Alabama. It's about the state of our conference. It has been established that wherever you take SWAC baseball, it won't be attended like football or basketball. Sad to say it this way, but those are the 'black' sports that everyone on 'our' campuses are interested in, despite the fact that these schools' baseball program, in many ways, is superior.

so you jumped on the bandwagon.

Nope. Have always followed baseball. It's been my favorite sport since I can remember. That didn't stop because PV didn't have a good team.

IF IF IF.... PLEASEEEEEEEEEE move this back to Houston....

and Attendence was 6,000 for championship.... ask the Bama St folks... AAMU fans were in the house in Birmingham.... and there was nowhere near 10,000 for the Texas SO and PV game this year.

Out of everything I have read in this thread, this is the saddest part. And we wonder why this conference is broke.

it's been well-documented the move from the Toyota Center killed the game....you went from campus to the middle of Houston and got to charge students more...

In 2003...there were 10K at TSU and 6K at PV........need a DVD?

Lets be real......compare Birmingham to Houston.....you can't....

tbf,
Surely, you can do a better job of explaining why only 483 showed up in Houston.
That low figure flies all in the face of so much of what you have posted.

PV folks aint commented on a baseball thread until last year... when you aint use to winning NOTHING u jump on the bandwagon of any sport who starts winning ..... same thing happenned when they won the basketball regular season title.... Didnt see too much about PV basketball the last two years on here. BANDWAGON fans.
:lol::lol:
Yup!!!!!

PV wins a few baseball games and tbf is now "the baseball fan". Just look at his name.

:lol::lol:

they tried to charge for parking also.....all you had to do was drive around on 11th street and go through the back gate.....

if you smiled at the ticket lady....you got in free seriously....they weren't concerned about admission

Don't let the shooting at Rickwood Field Sunday night, give you a bad impression of the Southwestern Athletic Conference. Yes, the SWAC Baseball Championship game was going on inside Rickwood Field, but the shooting happened outside. It was local people, not from Southern University or Prairie View A&M. It didn't happen because of security issues with the SWAC or anything like that. The folks at the SWAC are working long hours trying to give these historically black colleges the same experiences that the SEC, Big 10, Pac 10 and ACC get. A Championship Atmosphere in big time venues. This was a "black eye" for Birmingham, not the SWAC. Just like Legion Field's upper deck being condemned was a "black eye" for Birmingham. The once self proclaimed "Football Capital of the South" is dying on the sports vine. Soon, the SWAC will experience something just like the SEC, they'll move all their major championship events to another city.

Good Post.......

So you are saying that without PV being involved the game was missing a few hundred? That means that you are think the attendance would've been more like 700? Big difference that makes.....:smh:

fast forward to 2005 - 6 teams involved and 2 were Texas teams and 2 teams (ASU/SU) has plenty of Texans on the roster while 1 (MVSU) has a lot of Californians on the roster which makes it easier to fly in If folks want to fly in to B'ham or Houston they are both well equipped to handle that. I don't know what the hell your point is with this but it sure sounds stupid to me, right now.

if the tournament was in Houston and the same scenario set out like it did in B-Ham...record crowds at best..... Well, when you start to win on a regular basis then maybe we can find out if this is true. Right now, if you don't win you whine about scholarships and in the rare occassion that you do win, you'd complain about how the trophy was presented.

judging by the interest on the blackcollege baseball board and the 200 posts on this board, you can't tell me people don't care about baseball? The only reason that people are responding to this thread is because obviously alot of people don't know the state of the SWAC.

Bama folks act like us Texans don't do research......polled all the coaches...it ain't going back there....sorry...

the SWAC didn't even charge ADMISSION....what does that tell you about the tournament? It tells me that they learned their lesson from last year. Paying for a stadium and not get more than 500 people to show up was a waste/loss of money.

and 5K for a basketball game with two rivals? :lmao:Can you tell me how many folks showed up at both games that PV and TxSU played in basketball while you are laughing. Then look at the attendance for both games between AAMU/ASU.

that's worth 10K in Houston.......we got that at a REGULAR SEASON game I seem to remember you laughing at TxSU because the attendance was low.

Thanks BF, I knew you were on top of everything and would make sense of everything....:shame:

BTW,

Y'all need to give PV & TXSU their props. What their programs have accomplished the last couple of years is phenominal. Do you all realize we have 3 baseball teams in the conference that is capable of kicking anyone's azz nationally?

Yes........we do have people in this conference that are baseball lovers and it is not an "irrelevant" sports. None of them are.....

Dayum!!!! Thanks JRock...

And to be honest (no smack intended), IMO, I think SU's baseball dominance and arrogance for that extended stretch is the reason these 2 teams have elevated their level of play.

I don't dispute that. I just get sick of everytime people go somewhere they have to act like...nevermind

I really want the conference to move the games away from Alabama now. Like I said before, some people won't realize what they had until it's gone. Then you have the people that want to see the conference crash just to make their point. I'm glad none of them have control of my check book. :smh:

I said 1,000....read please..is that taught in Alabama? You fail to realize the impact of a winning TSU or PV has......if they win and the product is nice, the fans show....ask TSU about football in 2000....ask PV in basketball in 2003.....look at baseball this season.....we had quite a few people who never stepped foot at McGregor and that was word of mouth...

Birmingham - 3 flights to Houston max per day..etc...it's expensive to fly there and a last-minute person cannot afford it...the larger the city/airport, the cheaper it is.....duh....

what does the SWAC have to do with the people's interest in baseball? this time last year I saw no thread dedicated to the outcome of a baseball game..now you got 2 boards with people following them!....when you have winners..people want to see what's going on!

yeah, I laughed at TSU attendance at the TOYOTA CENTER on a THURSDAY

your a SWAC alum and like your SU counterparts.....where are you when the football lights are cut off and your basketball team isn't in town? If other SWAC folks would put their money where their mouth is things like this wouldn't occur...

we're presenting facts and your defending your state/city.....this is the bottom line...

I understand what you are saying. IMHO, though some of the sports championships should be more mobile. Even, if it is the formula that MD suggested (which is more money from member schools going into the SWAC kittie). Being "broke" is not a viable excuse.

I believe a lot of people in this thread are unfairly blaming the SWAC office for the shooting. However, it seems like the SWAC office may have been negligent in making visitors comfortable in some form or fashion. I believe the problem is much deeper though. I believe fans from member institutions would like more balance in the championship venues. Unfortunately, some of the less mature people don't know how to voice it. Consequently, "pot shots" are thrown out. I have been laughing at this thread most of the day.

I was there and it wasn't all that impressive. I had fun, but it wasn't like you had those stand filled up while I was out there. Want to see the photos again?

Birmingham - 3 flights to Houston max per day..etc...it's expensive to fly there and a last-minute person cannot afford it...the larger the city/airport, the cheaper it is.....duh.... You must be looking at one airline? I have had no problem with getting flights to and from Houston and B'ham. Neither has any of my family members that fly here frequently at decent prices I might add. So your comment is a lie!

Bandfan, the reason you have these threads is because of your whining. That is all. Now compare the threads about football to every other sport on the board and you will realize that baseball has not had anymore interest than what it has recieved in the past.

yeah, I laughed at TSU attendance at the TOYOTA CENTER on a THURSDAY I know you did. I just wanted to remind you.

your a SWAC alum and like your SU counterparts.....where are you when the football lights are cut off and your basketball team isn't in town? If other SWAC folks would put their money where their mouth is things like this wouldn't occur... TBF, I am a married man. I have to give my family some time with me throughout the year. I like football and basketball, so my wife understands when I want to go to these events. Other than that, this year was the first time that I attended a baseball game where my team wasn't playing.

we're presenting facts and your defending your state/city.....this is the bottom line...
You are presenting an argument not facts. Your argument is "When will the SWAC learn". I am defending the attack of a city that has offered the SWAC more than anyone else has FOR FREE! The issues you need to take up should be with the presidents, not the Commish. He doesn't make the final decision anymore, thanks to Rudy! So for you guys to attack that man for doing what he was told to do, is wrong. Ask your presidents why they didn't fund the tournament better.

Glad someone is feeling me......... :upset:

Another question, and this is one that just came to mind.

If we are so strapped for cash and fan support, why should we split the baseball and softball tournaments? That forces some fans to make a decision and ultimately contributes to lower turnouts for both.

at the time it LOOKED like the SWAC was receiving a great deal because it was FREE but lets be real, we haven't made much progress despite the freebies...

the presidents had nothing to do with how the tournament was managed....that falls back on the SWAC Office......I could've done things differently with little or no budgets...

the SWAC ain't broke...the Commish said so himself and the corporate sponsorships speak for itself

if the SWAC was so broke they wouldn't hold their meetings in a $138 dollar a night hotel with $28 valet parking in downtown New Orleans this week

the band fan said:

Because it RARELY happens in anything... so are you saying move a tournament to Houston based on how PV is playing at the time?

you saw last year PV was making progress and TSU was winning in baseball....keep the damn tournament in one place and let it grow...it had potential this year to do something...

get all that personal Bama BS out of your system and think logically.....

you take the tourney away and then literally forget about it proves to me it wasn't worth moving in the first place....

Do you know if the commish was given a check to make the things happen that you are questioning? If he wasn't given any money to make it happen the way you want, could that be the reason you saw him helping with the tarp?

I can tell you have never worked in a real corporate job. You wouldn't understand.

Just for my amusement, BF where do you think the money is coming from for the SWAC presidents to make this meeting?
