Southern at Northwestern State

I see why the ULL and LSU folks treat you the way they do.

Man RC Slocum send help. Maybe your alum can help yall get a game with Texas A&M for a paycheck. Sheesh.

I have no doubt you understand the USL mindset. That much is obvious. USL's never gonna be LSU and you guys aren't ever gonna be an Icon, like Grambling. From that perspective, y'all are a LOT alike.

And, YES, you did finally paid the buyout. AFTER you tried everything else. So, we're good ;)

As to LSU, we're going back next year, I think...if you ask nicely, we'll tell you what that experience is like ;)

We've been invited back to A&M...it'll happen again, soon.

So you're offended that we think your band is good? Sorry...that wasn't my intention. I just thought I should find something that happens on a football field that I could compliment Southern on...

and they did not bring the largest crowd to Mumford that year....another lie

I believe that guy thinks if he say it enough times, it will be true. :emlaugh: Hell, I gave him the link to S.U. 2004 attendance from the NCAA so apparently he is compulsive or delusional. :emlaugh: He is over here whining about that little buy out like a scorned women. ESPN paid the little buyout fee and like JR stated, it happens all of the time in college athletics........We had bigger fish to fry and a national television appearance to make. I'm sure those people would have made the same move given the circumstances (hell it's not like they are accustom to having their product on National Television). :emlaugh:

Perhaps you should go to the AGS website with this nonsense.

man, an HBCU is being called out on an HBCU forum and all they can talk about is attendance.

I can just see the Southern strategy sessions for this conversation:

JRock: "Man, we gonna hafta put McNeese in it's place! They're killin us on that whole contract fiasco...I know, We gonna talk about the head to head records! That'll show 'em!"

JR: "Uh, wait...we can't do that! They Whipped our ass! "

SuJag: "Okay, then we gonna talk about records versus common opponents!"

Jag-BR: "Man, we can't do that either. We don't play nobody outside of the conference. And we ain't done nothing in conference lately. APB is at the top of the heap now! If we were man enough to play Delta State, we might be able to make that argument. But, we can't take a chance on playing the Fightin' Okra. They got a Div II National Championship!"

JRock: "So what the hell are we gonna do about all that grief we're catching on the dayum contract?"

JR: "We can always go with the band or attendance!"

SuJAg: "Man, but if we bring up the bands, the J-State and Grambling will jump in and that never ends well!"

Jag-BR: "I guess all we got is attendance!"

Look dude, I can care less about ULL, LSU, or any other school in La not named Southern University. I don't need to ask about any type of experience at LSU nor care about their football program like you guys seem too. I am also an Ohio State grad and have experienced big school game atmosphere many times over on a yearly basis. I am glad you guys will get an invite to play LSU again so Les can run up the score with his big time recruiting class he got coming in. Same for Sumlin at A&M. I am sure they will more than oblige you. More power to yall. Get that check because it will not be a repeat of what happened in Tampa last weekend that's for sure. LOL.

Also, SU ain't trying to be like Grambling. Why should we? Unlike other SWAC schools, they don't own us on the gridiron. As for the band, I played 4 years in the Jukebox so I know how great we are and have been over the years. But it don't change my stance of just going to play yall just to entertain your fans at halftime. You can catch the Jukebox on TV or Youtube.

You know what's sad. Even with the success you McNeese folks have had in 1-AA/FCS football, you guys seem to have an inferiority complex. LOL. I mean you got your chest poked out like McNeese is a nationally known entity and the class of LA.

You won a football game against SU in 2004 and still upset about a none return visit to Lake Charles. Have some pride about yourself man. All this SU is scared, SU is not honorable, We didn't get to see the band, We finally got our money, all SU got is attendance, SU band is great, did I mention we didn't get to see SU's band?, SU football is beneath us, etc, etc is really sad. You are going on and on about how bad we are and how scared we are. What is the point? SU should not even be on your radar if that is the case. You said yourself it does nothing for your program by playing SU. So you should be glad you didn't have to play us again. Oh I forgot, you didn't get to see the band in BR. Is this all this is about? You didn't get to see the band? Do you need Mr Jackson's number? I am sure for the right amount of money, the Jukebox will travel to Lake Charles for a performance.

While I agree with your points (which is why Northwestern is paying us to come up there this year), playing the in-state schools isn't just about the immediate financial impact. Beating the in-state schools on the field can help us beat them in recruiting. Better players lead to better teams and better attendance at Mumford. At the end of the day, if we're going to base who we play on how well they travel, we'll never play anyone.

I totaly agree with this! Idont care if we play the cowboys, lions or any of the louisiana FCS schools on the moon if we have too. we can not afford not to play them AND beat them any longer. let's be honest with ourslves we have lost recruits to southeastern and mcneese because their coaches use the the exuse that we are afraid to play them. Why cant we see that. Who cares if they dont bring anybody to mumford THAT'S THE WAY IT'S SUPOSED TO BE! If im not mistaken Mcneese brought alot of people to Baton Rouge it was not as much as it would have been if Southern fans traved to lake charles but there were alot of people in theat corner.

It seems to me cowboy fans are just thirsty about Southern University. They know if ESPN would have came to Mcneese and said "Hey drop southern off of your schedule and play App State in a classic game and we will give you $600,000 garuntee (just guessing) all tavel for the football team, cheerleaders ,and band paid for by ESPN the buyout paid by ESPN that mcneese's A.D. would have taken that deal in a heartbeat. If he didn't i think the boosters at mcneese would have brought him in for a meeting and he would have some seirous expalning to do. Why do you think LSU gives up a home game every few years and go to Dallas and play a game.

Exactly. LOL. Hell they would have done that to play LSU or ULL. I have no issues in playing any Southland school. I know some Jags do. But as I said in other posts, we should play these schools sometimes. I think Broussard is down with that based on what I see him doing. But we also are going to be smart about it. We all have bills to pay and if there is money to be made, an AD's job is to present that opportunity to our powers that be.

We got bigger issues than worrying about hurt feelings from McNeese posters. They got one of their own brethren (Southland Conference Grad) at the helm of SU's athletic department. Surely if a sensible dialogue can be struck with our AD. Still sitting here whining about what the previous SU ADs did in negotiating contracts and such or us choosing to take a money game over playing them is a waste of time. They are going to play a money game against LSU next year so they say. I bet they would drop SU like a heart attack if we had been on the schedule and LSU came a calling or like you said if ESPN said they want to televise them in a classic game vs say a ND State. Even if it meant giving up a home a game in Lake Charles.

What they don't realize is a lot of SU fans were looking forward to that game in 05. Hell I had flown down to Houston from Minneapolis to drive to LC but of course Katrina had happened prior to that and the game was cancelled. They were going to get overun in LC. They knew that and was ready to go cha-ching. You would have had the SU crew from Houston all the way to BR there. Especially us coming off back to back seasons going to the SCG.

If I'm not mistaken, the number I read for the LSU vs. TCU and the Oklahoma State vs. Mississippi State games was $2.5 million dollars. Per team.

LSU might be able to make that much money per game, but the others cannot. Those other three schools have stadiums that seat around 60,000 and at an estimated $30 per ticket that's only $1.8 million. Before expenses. So, what did they do? They went and got that check.

McNeese's honor and pride would have been out the window if they were presented with a similar opportunity. Don't let these people fool you.

Those people thinking Southern needs to go fill up McNeese's stadium - hoping to get a win so they can hope to get a recruit - need to think again. Southern needs to go get that check. Just like everybody else does, including LSU.

SU lost one recruit to a instate fCS school this year, that's it, and that was to Northwestern St. We are winning these battles since we have a coach that knows who to recruit.

Come on JR, teach your boys to quit diverting to anything else other than football....OK? It's really looking kind of sad.

So su took McNeese off the schedule as an excuse to play FAMU? What about all these other years you had chances to make up the game? What's the excuse on that? Nevermind, we know. The SWAC's nine game mandate.:snicker:

You mean besides Southern's cowardice?? ;)

So who at SU is scared of McNeese State? I want names. You think Broussard is scared of you cats? Our Head Coach (who probably don't know much about yall and SU's dealings), our players? They played the same mofos you guys have when they were in HS. I seriously doubt Dray Joseph is saying, man I don't want to play McNeese. LOL.

The fans don't even give it a second thought. If you ended up on the schedule. They would be there.

Broussard played in the Southland. He knows you're not ready for that kinda competition. You're far better off ducking us and talking about your attendance than you are trying to swim in the deep end...

Broussard knows that Northwestern's been down for the last three years and is in a rebuilding phase. That's why you're playing them NOW instead of later. He's smart enough to know that timing's everything and this is as good as it gets for Southern ; )

Actually Broussard tried to schedule McNeese. Your previous AD that left y'all for Tech said no. :)

That WOULD surprise me. Saying "No" and saying "Our schedule is full" are two different things....And, given the way the previous two contractual issues were handled by Southern, I can't say I blame him IF the overture even occurred....

Tommy and Broussard played together at NW....but..Tommy's at La Tech now, so it's a moot point.....I will make a point to see if Southern inquired about a game and what the terms were...

I can tell you right now, going to Mumford ain't an option...

Tommy's a great guy and did a good job for us, but having Bruce Hemphill as the AD now is huge. We've tried to get him to come home before, but it just wasn't the right time for him...
