MEAC Presidents Vote "No" to Legacy Bowl For Conference Champ

In order for the SWAC to succeed:

(1) Certain schools need to realize that they are not bigger than the conference. ATTENDENCE DOES NOT MAKE YOU BIGGER THAN THE WHOLE SWAC!!! Without the SWAC as a whole, you would be nothing. As much stuff as FAMU talks about being the beacon of all HBCUs, they still are members of the MEAC. Can we say the same about Tennessee State? Your institution's opinion on a matter is equal to everyone else. Alcorn=JSU=Valley=UAPB=TXSU=PV=AAMU=ASU=GSU=SU.

(2) The SWAC needs to quit treating coaches who know how to win like shit all because they don't fit the so-called "profile" of a SWAC alma-mater. It was sickening to me how Alcorn treated Coach Ernest Jones. You could see the vast improvement in the way the players played for Coach Jones his one season he was at Alcorn. We were rebuilding that year, but you could tell that Coach Jones was going to lead Alcorn to the top one day in the near future. But because some idiot Alcornites didn't like him because he loved to smack, "(Me personally, I loved that he called SU Fans "arrogant and cocky, labeled JSU "The School Up North, and guaranteed a win a Valley. The U of Miami did that all the time in the 80s), they unnecessarily terminated him. DUMB, DUMB, Decision. That set us back for two more years. Hopefully, Coach Spears can lead us back.

Grambling should be ashamed for how they treated Coach Broadway. I hope Grambling plays NC A&T in the SWAC-MEAC Challenge in 2013.

(3)Until we do the first two items, things will continue to get worse.

Without Alcorn, there would not be a SWAC. JSU doesn't hold the highest attended game in Memorial Stadium history. Guess who does?

And I'm with Jafus,

The SWAC needs to bring in Tennessee State and Tuskegee. And don't give me that shat about Tuskegee doesn't have the funds to be FCS. If they can the ass of both participants in the 2010 SCG, the SWAC doesn't have ANY shat to down Tuskegee with.

And I'm going to end with this:

I'm not mad at TX Southern or PV for their recent success. Actually, I'm glad for them. I know I post smack about their TSPN Posters love affair and when they attempt smack talk, but bottom line,

Their improvement can only help and improve the SWAC.

Im beating you to it Jag Hammer

Wut lol

What's the need in boasting you have the top attendence in the SWAC if teams like Arkansas-Monticello, South Dakota State,Delta State, and Tuskegee are whipping you?

Brenda Square wasn't the one who stated in the Clarion Ledger that JSU was too good for the SWAC and wanted to go D-I, Bob Braddy was.

From what you just said what does that to do from this topic 12th man. No one in this thread said anything about leaving the SWAC.

What does your Coach calling other schools names and Where is Spears leading you back too, dont you have to a east divison crown atleast to be lead back anywhere

You do realize SD State is FCS level and was in their transition move up year when SU played them. They were not a scrub team by no means and neither is Delta State. Now letting Arkansas Monticello beat you is different. TU gets up to play our teams. D2 rules are not FCS rules. Central State used to whoop teams back in the day when they were D2.

Well, continue to get your asses whooped in the playoffs and embarrassed BCF.

At the end of the day, until the level of coaching changes (more money), nothing will change in either conference.

You dont understand what is going on. After things started coming to light, the Presidet of SCSU sent a letter to the MEAC Commissioner, asking basic questions about the proposed game. The letter was published by the T&D. The commish could never answer those questions. Now it could be that our commissioner was clueless about the details and Duer Sharp really knew the details and could or would not disclose them. I am more apt to believe both were/are clueless about this "deal" and ESPN was about to get us for a song. Actually the MEAC cut after the conference office was less than $25,000 per team and the full cost not covered for the participant. We were about the get screwed. Thank goodness to the reporter from LA and Dr. Ammons.

Second, if your commish was about to get rid of a game for another with such a low payout, that payout must be bigger than the one you are getting rid of. Now go find out the JSU share of the SCG. I am not asking you to post it or tell me because you wont. Just discuss it amongst yourselves.

While folks want to play this petty thread out, there are bigger questions which need to be addressed to our administrators. What exactly are they doing with the financial and competitive stewardship of our programs.

P.S. - Let me know when you care to compare playoff resumes with FAMU.

Question: What did Bethune Cookman gain by getting blown out by 3-4 TD's on their home field?

2nd question: What did South Carolina State gain by getting beaten (once again) in the playoffs? I'll patiently wait for your response.

1. You don't know ALL of the facts about the proposed Legacy Bowl because the official details have never been disclosed. A few months ago, you MEAC folks were claiming we'd have to pay for travel and lodging yet ESPN never even got the game off the ground (sponsors) or made a public acknowledgement of the game.

2. Dr. Ammons has no pull in the MEAC. Everyone knows Dr. Harvey runs that conference. Dr. Ammons ran his mouth about a bunch of nothing the same way he did about boycotting the MEAC-SWAC Challenge in Orlando. Your president is full of sh*t and he knows that FAMU athletics are garbage.

3. What does FAMU's record in the playoffs have to do with now? Yall aint been to the playoffs since 1999. Hell, your conference has gone 0-12 in 11 years. You people are delusional.

4. Like I said before, until the level of coaching improves, you all will continue to lose in the playoffs and embarrass BCF. Why are yall living in the past?

The top SWAC coaches make close to the same as some of the top FCS coaches. Our problems come with inferior offensive line and defensive line play when we play OOC.

Most of our players seem to lack fundamental techniques in these crucial areas.

Maybe Robber or someone else can break down what I stated, then help you understand that what you responded with was not a response.

Understandable. When I mentioned the money, I was referring to having a complete, competent staff from top to bottom. Have you seen the strenght & conditioning and nutrition coaches/programs at these other FCS schools? Its like night and day.

I know what a question is and dont intend to engage in a crazy back and forth, but in response to your first POINT (not question), the President of SCSU, three time defending football champion sent a letter to the MEAC Commish based on questions he was fielding from Boosters and his Board. The MEAC commish could answer none. The general parameters of a contract are spelled out prior to entering a contract. And with a deep pocket partner like ESPN, most of the details as well. First off, this is not our first contract with ESPN. We know them and they know us. Why would you sign a contract with few financial details being spelled out. Why would we give up a post season opportunity for another based on financial benefit, when the financial benefit is not spelled out.

Sharp and Thomas are doing what is best for them and not what is best for our conferences. And if Thomas keeps it up, we (FAMU) wont be there.

BTW....Ammons most certainly does not run the MEAC, but he was the first and only president to publicly come out against this game when it had majority support. Matter of fact, he came out so strong the Commish did a gag order. Now that game is in the F'ing dust. Ammons may not run it, be he knows what the hell he is doing in it ;-)

We all know Ammons is the first to b*tch. He was the first to b*tch when the MEAC-SWAC Challenge moved to Orlando and how the game would hurt the attendance of the Florida Classic. Guess who's playing in Orlando this fall for the MEAC-SWAC Challenge. Dr. Ammons has no power.
