All of you planning on falling victim to PV football 2008, sign in.

Nothing is easy coming off 3 wins in 5 years. Why not follow a proven successful model.

A proven model is playing a lot of sub-Div I teams? That seems like a model of a brand new football program that has plenty of fish and sophomores. Doesn't Texas Southern have Col. Sanders behind center and transfers all throughout the depth chart? May take time to gel, but seems like JC is looking for the quick fix.

TT. Texas Southern people might be behind, however Sam Houston's football coaching staff reminds me of my childhood days in Nacogdoches. Is there at least a waterboy of color on the staff? Kellon Winslow send help.

We actually used to have a few more minority assistants under the previous head coach including one that went to SMU before heading elsewhere in FBS. Nowadays, just the Hispanic gentleman who is taking us into West and South Texas -- new recruiting grounds for us -- and unfortunately, that's about it. We could do better in minority hires. Even our new soccer coach is a white male that replaced a South American female. Only female head coaches are volleyball and women's basketball.

Who cares about the name change, its always going to be 1-A and 1-AA to me. It wouldn't matter if I was a graduate from UT, TAMU, it would still be 1-A and 1-AA. What does being in the swac have to do with not conforming to the name change? Some people still call Tx State (Sw Tx) -- Its really not a big deal to fans. However, if your working in the media, you shouldn't be using those terms. If they are used, people are not going to look at you like a :retard: because they understand what your talking about...

It does matter. Does Texas Southern play I-AA basketball, I-AA baseball? Granted, schools don't need to use that when recruiting against Texas Southern, but the reason for the name change was because of schools using that to recruit against schools like Sam Houston State and Appalachian State.

Remember, you play Division I football -- as much as those on this board including members of sports information staffs, only call 'FBS' schools as Division I. It is what you play. Enjoy it!

It may not be a big deal to fans, but your schools and your fan bases are opening up some negative recruiting against your schools cause your inability to recognize you play Division I sports. Texas Southern in many aspects may not have the look and feel of a Division I institution, but it is what it is.

This guy went from bashing the whole SWAC to the just TSU. O'well...If your lazy and complacent at the new TSU, you will be searching for a new position. If you have career aspirations to use places like TSU, or your NP, as a stepping stone, your in the wrong business. I want people who have the same love for my university and passion for their position as descision makers to hold people accountable for their individual athletic team. We haven't had that in place as we do now...

A good deal of the schools in the SWAC have continued to show progress and initiative. While it may finally turn the corner soon with Texas Southern now that you have the right guy in place at the top, it comes down to the last guy on the food chain in the athletic department to make it happen. You are only as strong as your weakest link.

And if "lazy and complacent" is not accepted at Texas Southern, I look forward to two things that prove this...

a) Noticeable improvements in areas that brings your school up to Division I standards, in which those from every corner of the SWAC and beyond (since your institution deals with people 'beyond') notice it.

b) If improvements are not made, that the axe is brought down on a few people who are responsible.

We'll see if this can be taken to task. If you guys had a few good people in certain positions, you'd be shocked at how different things were with them than they are currently are and have been. This is the task of Charlie Mac -- bring in good people. Find the 'lazy and complacent'. Give them a chance. If they are not up to par, it's time for them to go.

I'm truely excited about this football season and the up-coming years for TSU Athletics. Once we start winning, the chron will continue to put more and more coverage into our programs. They have been covering our football team and other teams on a consistent basis through the worst period of our existence.

Winning over Concordia, Texas College and Shaw won't do much for you. You guys will get your usual coverage for the Prairie View A&M game and then from there, the Chronicle will jump on the back of the winner or the "good story" on a week to week basis. That is how it's always been in the area colleges beat. The Chronicle road PVA&M's back all last season because they were winning and the "good story".

Chronicle backed off the 'Bomar Beat' because we started off slow and got hot when PVA&M was fizzling, it was a bit too late. This is how it's always been. Having Brandon Williams blogging helps, but unless TxSo beats someone other than the 'Texas College of the Blind' and 'Southern Sisters for the Poor', it won't do much for your coverage.

You explain to me how using the term 1-AA will affect any differently then FCS as far as recruiting? FBS and FCS sounds stupid as hell...

Remember, you play Division I football -- as much as those on this board including members of sports information staffs, only call 'FBS' schools as Division I. It is what you play. Enjoy it!

Yes we are D-1, but I can see if any if TSU or SHSU were on the cusp of winning Nat'l championships, but we are not, and it doesn't matter if we play (Hypothetically), HCC or the New York Giants, we will still be in the same boat. You guys already have a foundation of players, we are starting from the begining.

I may either agree, or disagree with playing a schedule, but I will be at the games and supporting my University because of those who are in positions to make schedules made it, and I have to deal with it. I'm going to support my university whether we are 0-a lot of losses like PV (I'm not bashing PV) did a few years ago, or win 50 straight games. Would you do the same?

It may not be a big deal to fans, but your schools and your fan bases are opening up some negative recruiting against your schools cause your inability to recognize you play Division I sports. How would you know its opening up negative recruiting wars because of the us on TSPN use 1-AA. Most of us on this board are not recruiting any way so we are entitled to use it in any way. I bet you if you polled most of these high school students and the parents coming out of high school, they will not know the difference between FBS and FCS unless it has already been explained. If a kid is talented enough to go to a 1-A like UT, why would he be interested in a 1-AA like SHSU? It doesn't matter if its FBS, FCS, 1-A, 1-AA

They haven't jumped off of us, I don't know what your talking about. Matter of fact we were loosing and still recieved coverage and news stations at every home game. Beating Concordia, Texas College and Shaw will still have B. Williams or R. Turner at our games and covering whether its a story in the sunday newspaper, or blogs. Still more than we were getting 5 years ago when we were more competitive than 0-11.

Having Brandon Williams blogging helps, but unless TxSo beats someone other than the 'Texas College of the Blind'

Now that's just wrong, especially if you have someone in your family or a close friend who is afflicted with this disability. You might as well say West Texas College of the Latino's or North Texas School for Disabled veterans -- It all sounds horrible

You explain to me how using the term 1-AA will affect any differently then FCS as far as recruiting? FBS and FCS sounds stupid as hell...

A lot of people are not as smart as you and I and believe or promote that I-AA (it was never '1-AA' -- use the proper nomenclature) carries over to more than one sport and that it means Division II. Does Texas Southern have a Division II program? Nope.

Unlike many SHSU fans, I support all of our programs and follow each of them. Could tell you just as much about our T&F program as I could about the WBB program or softball program, tennis program or men's golf. As a fan, I would be critical of the schedule, whether we typically went 11-0 or 0-11. I'd want to see my team playing a balanced schedule, not one full of sorority sisters and cupcakes.

Again -- my point that a lot of people do think that "I-AA" is Division II football. This is Division I football. And you know what? Comegy and a lot of SWAC schools go head to head against FBS schools for talent. Not sure if Texas Southern does or not, but I am sure Johnnie Cole does not want to go into homes and trying to explain that his program is not Div II because of how other coaches promote his program. Same goes for Candy or anyone else. The football stigma carries over.

Regarding recruiting and message boards -- you better believe potential recruits and their parents read message boards. I've heard it from the mouth of ADs, coaches, parents and recruits themselves. Some of the remarks made by fans of their own programs don't look good to those on the outside. Of course, not having a web site for two years for a sports program also does not look good, but I digress...

We all get in the blogs nowadays. Fact is, our programs do not always get coverage at each game, whether home or away. You may get a stringer sometimes, but most of the time, you are just getting the AP blurb. PVA&M vs TxSo always get the coverage, but after that -- it's not always hit, hit, hit in terms of having someone at each game. You must not be reading the Chronicle much if you really think there is a writer at each home game. There's a thing called the byline. Check it out.

Being a fan and being critical of a schedule what does that do? No matter how much you like it or dislike it, those in power of making the sked are going to sked who they want. Do you think as an paid member of an Alumni Association they should raise hell because they don't have the best sked? No, you have to take it and roll with it. I would rather raise hell for loosing too much, or just loosing to those cupcakes. Not because I may not agree with a sked.

A balanced sked means what? Teams that we could compete with, or teams that would just beat the mess out of us? Like I said, I may disagree or agree with the sked, but these guys need to experience some wins and hopefully some blowouts like we have been getting that past few years. Would you be critical if LSU played App State and Georgia Southern in the same year?

So with that being said, you talk about all the negatives going on in the swac on this message board and AGS because you believe recruits and their parents are reading the message board, are you trying to keep them away from the SWAC?

You've said numerous times in different words that you want the SWAC or TSU to become better in regards to D-1, why are you steady spewing these negative comments any opportunity you have. Your always saying things like, they have the right person in charge BUT... (Negative, Negative, Negative).

Truth is, everyone could find negatives about everything, but there are positives of being HBCU's that we are giving opportunities to young minorities to graduate from college and play an athletic sport at the D-1 level. Even though our football team may be playing a soft sked, in their four years, they will be playing schools from 1-A or FBS conferences.

Our AD has taken a great deal of heat for his scheduling and our scheduling has been much more challenging than that of yours by a long shot. This year's schedule is very ideal for SHSU.

We have an OOC regional foe (PVA&M), an OOC foe from the national level (Gardner-Webb), a sub-Div I regional opponent (East Central Oklahoma -- we hate these, but everyone whether FBS or FCS, especially in our region needs to do it) and an FBS opponent. If SHSU can go 3-1 in OOC play, we put ourselves in position to make a playoff push. That is what our fans want.

This is a balanced schedule with 1 FBS, 1 sub-Div I and two FCS (which both happen to be winnable games). TxSo on the otherhand has three sub-Div I teams, an FBS game and an FCS game (that in all reality is not as winnable as one your program could obtain). Anything less than 3-2 is going to be miserable for your program.

A balanced sked means what? Teams that we could compete with, or teams that would just beat the mess out of us? Like I said, I may disagree or agree with the sked, but these guys need to experience some wins and hopefully some blowouts like we have been getting that past few years. I explained it above. As it relates to FBS, those schools should not be playing two FCS a year. First thing, only one would count towards bowl eligibility so if you win one, the other game is rather meaningless from a football perspective. If you are an FCS school, you could play two FBS games, but you are pretty much pushing yourself to the brink of playoff extinction.

In FCS, unless you are in the "in-house championship" league or a league like the Pioneer, it's all about the playoffs. Scheduling yourself an attractive schedule to your fans and a solid shot at playoffs should be your goal.

So with that being said, you talk about all the negatives going on in the swac on this message board and AGS because you believe recruits and their parents are reading the message board, are you trying to keep them away from the SWAC?

My problem with Texas Southern is that the problems have existed for years. They have yet to be changed. Why is that? Why can the school not even meet what many schools would consider the status quo?

When it comes to SHSU, I'm too close to the personnel, like it seems many of you are with the TxSo faithful, but I do have the ability to step out of the box and acknowledge the problems - unlike many of you TxSo fans who continue to watch your program fall into the bowels of Division I.

Newboy, how do your friends on the baseball team feel when they have to bus everywhere and anywhere for a game? When they get wins over solid squads and it does not even get posted on their own school's web site? When they have to travel to nice college baseball parks, only to return to their city-owned facility, which is bested by numerous high schools in the area?

You either commit to Div I athletics or you do not. There's numerous things that can be done to upgrade a program. A lot of time has been wasted, what do you guys have in store for the future? Many of your rivals have done so, even without many of the resources you have -- time to step forward.

Enough....

Now let me make sure I understand your thinking TexasTerror:

You're saying because of Texas Southern fans as a whole or some individual Texas Southern fans being unaware that the NCAA went away from Div. I-AA and I-A classification to FCS and FBS that Texas Southern football coaches are losing out on some high caliber athletes?

When they have to travel to nice college baseball parks, only to return to their city-owned facility, which is bested by numerous high schools in the area?

Playing on the baseball team, we didn't fell sorry for ourselves. We new what we got ourselves into...Didn't SHSU play in a city park? I remember playing against them away from the school untill they got that new park

For the past few years Alois Blackwell can be attributed to much of the issues we've had at TSU, he made it a horrible place to work and he allienated many of the TSU faithful. There wasn't a committment from the previous presidential administration like there is today. I don't see us going back to how we were in the past, maybe you should get over the past and expect a lot of changes like we do. Granted, I may not know ALL the changes are going to happen (I do know some), but we have people in charge who care about our university suceeding in education and athletics.

Who do you know haven't acknowledge any of the problems? What you know is what's going on all these message boards, you don't know the inter-workings. With that being said, I'm done with you.

I am saying that schools that do not effectively promote their status in football as Division I could negative impact the recruiting efforts of their teams. The main reason for the name change was because I-AA was typically recruited as being Div II, not just in football, but other sports. I'm sure schools are recruiting against Texas Southern, calling the school a "Div II" entity.

Playing on the baseball team, we didn't fell sorry for ourselves. We new what we got ourselves into...Didn't SHSU play in a city park? I remember playing against them away from the school untill they got that new park

SHSU played at Holleman Field, a SHSU property. The field was owned by SHSU and is still owned by SHSU. In fact, the nationally ranked club baseball team uses it. I figure that nationally ranked SHSU club baseball team would be amongst the top three in the SWAC.

I could care less about the "inner-workings". I see what I see and quite frankly, the picture is not pretty. I'll hold judgment for awhile longer outside of the football schedule, because it seems Charlie Mac needs to stretch his legs to bring about change. The floor is his and in a few months, we can re-evaluate.

You can be done with me, but I hope you are not done with your university. The onus is on you and your school to attract more than the 750 Texas Southern fans who showed up to that final football game, a true embarrassment for any Division I or Division II for that matter, football program.

Seriously though TT, you seem to "care" a bit too much when it comes to TxSU. I'm sure your concern is more needed and appreciated over at SHSU. You are bordering on obsession!

I'm enjoying watching TT break an orange foot off in sTu's ass. :emlaugh: Plz, let me continue to be amused while the underlings have zero stolid responses to the issue(s) TT raises. :read: The only thing they know is "elementary" type quips, name calling, insipidity of the highest magnitude :retard:, et al (that's Latin for "and other" lol :swink: ) items of diversion because they certainly don't answer valid questions he asks. :read:

The onus is on you and your school to attract more than the 750 Texas Southern fans who showed up to that final football game, a true embarrassment for any Division I or Division II for that matter, football program.

I see you hadn't done your homework regarding a previous thread where I told you to research WHY only 750 fans showed up for the final football game.

TSUNAA and the SGA teamed together for the Southern and UAPB (senior day) games to show the university that "enough is enough" that we would not be supporting the football team as they wanted. We didn't tailgate or turnout to the game and it made a significant difference. The NEW administration saw to our concerns and changes were made.

TexasTerror and Panthro, you two don't know what the hell our alumni and students have endured at the hands of Alois Blackwell and Regent J. Paul Johnson over the years. How many times we'd (TSUNAA and SGA) meet with the administration and demand changes but we lost those battles but we won the war and that's all that matters.

We won the war with Priscilla Slade gone, Quentin Wiggins gone, the Regents gone (namely J. Paul Johnson), Alois Blackwell gone, that imbecile of an Interim President (J. Timothy Boddie) gone now we have a president (John Rudley) making drastic changes, a new board (led by Chairman Glenn Lewis), an effective Athletic Director (Charles McClelland) steering the ship making sweeping changes so we are headed in the right direction and you best believe we all welcome it.

So if getting a football team that only won four games over the past four years to play three teams that are below our classification then so ****ing what? Nobody three, five, ten, or twenty years from now will say, "oh back in 2008 when TSU played those cupcakes...". In 2009, those games below the FCS division will decrease and in 2010 they'll be completely gone so keep on worrying about what the **** we do at 3100 Cleburne.

And Ricky, after Frazier is gone after the season is over what are you going to do then when you have a university president that doesn't give a damn about athletics, a Texas A&M Board of Regents who don't give a damn about your school? That's right, you'll have Sam Houston and TT to support then. SMFs

Glad to see the Texas Southern Alumni supporting their next line of alums in no-showing Senior Day...what a slap into the face to seniors who put up with all you mentioned.

Not sure about you, C-Leb, but I support my team through good times and bad. It's truly about the players and I'd find another way to slap the athletic administration in the face outside of not showing up to that football facility of yours. Quite frankly, it's a bit disrespectful if you ask me -- but then again, good decisions and Texas Southern were never used in the same sentence it seems until late...

On another note...where's the Texas Southern fan that said there were at least 7,000 people at the game?

Just to let you know dude, I met with the seniors the Wednesday of those weeks and explained to them why we were doing such and the got happy and thanked us for stepping up because they went to the administration asking for change and it fell on deaf ears so they had no problem what we were doing and fully supported what we did.

Just ask the Jackson State alumni and supporters about Bell's final season and what they did at the UAPB game as well when they didn't show up in record numbers to get the administration's attention.

How do you define support your team TexasTerror?

Is it, following them around on the internet and posting scores and updates on various message boards or is it following your team for six years straight to all home and away games?

When Texas Southern played Norfolk State in San Diego I was there.
When Texas Southern played Morris Brown in Atlanta I was there.
When Texas Southern played Howard in D.C. I was there.
Alabama A&M in Huntsville...
Alabama State in Longview...
Alabama State in Montgomery...
Southern...
Grambling...
Texas State...
Nicholls State...
McNeese...
And the list goes on and on...

I was there putting my money (hotel accomodations, airline tickets, rental cars, buying tickets, etc...) where my mouth is.

What about you? That's right; you're still young 25 and you can't afford to travel the states witht the Bearkats but you are with them in spirits.

Dude just go **** yourself.

And I am there supporting not only TSU, but other SWAC Teams and HBCU's taking a yearly trip to support the MEAC schools. I think C-Leb put it this way " How many trips out of town have you taken to see Uncle Sam!" Let along to support an HBCU in the flesh?:retard:

I do a fair share of my own business travel that conflicts with following the Kats around. It's part of the risk/reward of what I am doing, though I make sure to listen to the Kats as much as possible and of course, constantly talk them up when given the chance.

Got to remember, I don't live within elbow's reach of my alma mater like you guys. Can't kiss the babies of the Board of Regents and put new toilet paper in the bathrooms of the athletic staff, on a moment's notice like you guys.

In fact, outside of work, the last time I was in Houston was in 2006. I had three work-related trips (four or five if you include stops on the way to other cities) to Houston in 2007. The wife and I are hoping to stop by Houston in a few weeks, when I'll have to make a gamble on where I should go for some fried chicken...:dizzy:

Asshole you got more excuses than a death row inmate. Just STFU and stay away from me and I seriously mean that.

You said you "listen to them as much as possible" as well and "constantly talk them up when given the chance". :retard:

My job between 1998-2003 had me traveling out of the state more than I was in (on the road Monday night thru Friday mornings every other week) yet I still managed to travel with my Tigers or even meet them at the away games.

They have airlines where you can fly out of New Orleans to Houston to get to the home games in Huntsville as well as airports you could have flown in to for away games so what stopped you then? Like I said in a previous thread you are an "internet fan".

Please get back to the TOPIC instead of all this bickering about TSU.....

WHO GIVES A DAMN GEESH!!!

Take the bitter shi* to the SMACK BOARD... We see the bad blood here... It is going to be hell on whomever team does not make some noise.:lmao::lmao:

The last game of the year the fans tailgated, however it was a planned event not to enter the stadium.

Prairie View utilized the same model when it brought football back. Now they are at the top and even have a game scheduled against power house Sam Houston.

I am so glad for stand up people like Kellon Winslow. My son would not attend a college to play college football, that did not have at least one African American on the staff.

To some people I guess this means they are mainstreamed.

Cheer that B______!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wait, don't tell me...you work 9-5, Monday through Friday? Sounds like a walk in the park...

My job includes hours all over the map and requires work seven days a week. Not only do I travel Monday through Friday, I'm on the road on the weekends as well. Granted, I am not on the road every day of the week nor every weekend, but being away as much as I am, I can not earn the 'brownie points' with the wife where we can use free weekends to travel to Huntsville.

Heck, when the Bearkats were down the road in Hammond this past year, we could not even go! We did make an appearance in 2006 in Hammond though as I wore shorts in the 30-40 degree weather. ;)

My boss actually had been out of town each weekend until this past weekend since the beginning of May! Talk about a rough stretch.

The good thing is...a) I've got the youth to deal with it, b) I like my job and more importantly, c) I am always getting to eat in new places

If work were not in the way, I'd be wearing Bearkat orange every weekend, no matter where the Kats played. So many of their games are a few hour road trip and of course, buying Southwest Airlines flights months in advance are pretty cheap (for Houston travel).

Most alumni who post on this board have travel to varies part of the country to see TSU play. And unless an emergency arise. They are at all home games.

Back to the 7000 number.

If you take every home game attendance from last year and divide by the number of home games you will have 7000 fans.
