Will Alcorn defeat Southern Miss?

The game looks to be shaping up to be big once again… We set there record stadium attendance in 2009 at 36,232. A lot of hoopla surrounding this year, so it would be epic if we pulled off a win.

It would be great for Alcorn and the SWAC.

Food for thought. "Mississippi State did the same thing to USM as they did to Alcorn." Football is won in the trenches, if Alcorn's Offensive and Defensive lines are big and physical enough the game will be interesting, if not the game will be long. One thing I know is Alcorn will be ready to play and they do not fear USM.

When we are playing each other there should be a total crossfire of trash talking, when going against an FBS school we should not even have this nonsense and pull together.

.....You did not just post this did you? WHAT...THE...HELL. Pull Together....Really? Dude, THIS IS FOOTBALL. I told you wayyyyyy back WEEKS AGO that the Spotlight is going to be on Alcorn ALL SEASON LONG. This is part of competition. Trash talking is a part of football and it always will be. This is called HYPE. Are we truly as good as advertised? See I like this. CAN WE WIN A BIG GAME WHEN THE ATTENTION IS ON US?? See, we not sneaking up on nobody now. The spotlight is strictly on ALCORN STATE UNIVERSITY. It should send chills of excitement down your spine for an opportunity to compete. Can we Alcorn, handle the spotlight? OH YEAH!!!!!

Its just like JSU going against FAMU and TN State, AAMU in the SWAC MEAC Challenge and against Tuskegee, Alabama State against TN State. The Conference is expecting US ALCORN STATE UNIVERSITY to carry the conference mantle and represent the whole conference well. I told you this was coming. Don't run from the attention, EMBRACE IT!!!! Use it as positive motivation!!!

You are by no means carrying this conference. Anyway, I am rooting for alcorn and any other swac school that plays a pwc/ooc. However, many of the same schools asking for HBCU support against ooc do not extend that same courtesy to Jackson State University. Hoping we lose to meac, conf USA etc. and gloating in our defeats. But, gooooo ALCORN!!! y'all can do it!

Always you miss the freaking point. Did common sense skip your generation?

I did not attend JSU but anytime a swac school is playing OOC I'm totally for that HBCU.

It's wishful thinking, but I'd like to see Alcorn pull it out. USM is a garbage program all around, but they are flipping a lot of BCF commits because of their FBS status. They flipped commits from FAMU, Grambling, Alcorn last year. And they beat out JSU for some kids that were on Comegy's A-list but didn't have many other offers elsewhere. This is the new norm in Hattiesburg. They are a glorified FCS program, and something needs to happen to sway these kids to take a longer look at the SWAC.

This. If they can hang with them until the fourth quarter that'll look really good!

Nah... they gotta win but even still.. USM sucks.. and everyone knows that. USM has been in the way of JSU growth for years. We know we can't compete with the SEC but USM has been that safe haven for blacks who don't want to go to an HBCU but don't want to go to MS State or Ole Miss either. For those who think "white is right", USM is reeling them in!

Generally speaking, USM has inhibited Alcorn's growth moreso than Jackson State. I know that all 3 universities compete for high school and junior college athletes in South Mississippi. But overall, USM has been in Alcorn's way. We went through a period of about 15 years in which our growth was stagnant (not getting smaller, but not getting larger either). Jackson State is central and located in Mississippi's largest city. It has been doing ok with growth independent of the USM factor. Alcorn traditionally had a hold on the black community along the Mississippi Gulf Coast, but USM got in the way of that starting in the mid 90s. Many of the blacks in smaller, rural cities/towns in South Mississippi started going with USM as well, because it is designated to offer more programs being that it is a PWC.

Alas the USM b.s., we need to win this game.

Yeah, it was only 7 black dudes in my graduating class, 5 of us went to college, 3 of them went to USM, 1 stopped at Hinds and I went to JSU.

Tigerpride for once I agree with you.

I can see them going after USL coach before Hopson.

I am sure of that, but Hud is not going to take it. In fact, they already came at him once before. Hud loves it at ULL.

Hud is going to stay in Cajun land racking up easy Sun Belt wins and praying for Mullens to have a losing season at Mississippi State. That's his dream job.

USM folks love Hopson and have waited for him to get some HC experience. He has plenty of plugs on the entire Gulf Coast, and river parishes of Louisiana from his days working with Buddy Teevens at and Curley Hollman at LSU. If Alcorn has a great season and USM looks like they did last season, Hopson will have a new job. The good thing for Alcorn fans is that he would be leaving plenty of talent.

Hobson will not leave Alcorn for USM. USM will not hire him from Alcorn. He may leave alcorn and take a job in the Southland conference and then go to USM in a few years, but not now and not right from Alcorn. USm just paid a coach a bunch of money after one year (Auburns DC), they are not about to fire another coach (Monkin) after 2 years.
