Since Barack Obama was sworn in as President

Good question. I've come to realize that things are just different over there in Alabama. I cringed when I heard Rickey Smiley singing the bama fight song (with alot of pride) on his morning show. [SUB]If I had that much pride and interest in another school, I probably would've just attended[/SUB].

Excellent point.

Storm96 and SoloMan,

People really have to be able to differentiate between a UNIVERSITY and a FOOTBALL TEAM.

I root for the Crimson Tide Football team.

Period.

I considered going to Alabama, but chose ASU instead, for cultural, academic and financial reasons. And I'm glad I did. The University of Alabama is a great place to go to school - even for minorities. I spent a lot of time on their campus when I was in school at ASU, and had a lot of fun.

But again, I root for the UA FOOTBALL TEAM, not the UA Library, or Biology Department, or cafeterria.

You guys straight now?

Seems a little contradictory to me........you attended Alabama State, but profess U of Alabama to be a great place to go to school - even for minorities........and even professed to have spent a lot of time on their campus while in school at Alabama State.....but root for the U of Alabama football team and not their library, or biology department, or their caferteria?:retard::confused:

To each his own, but I can't understand why you just didn't transfer to University of Alabama; even with the reasons you stated for attending Alabama State, it's apparent from your post your preference was University of Alabama. But again, to each his own.

:)

LMAO!!!

Yall just don't get it. :smh:

As I've said many times, I'm a Yankee fan . . . but I've never set foot in New YorK, and have no desire to live there.

I'm a Laker fan . . . but I've never set foot in Los Angeles, and not trying to move there either.

Why does the fact that I root for Alabama make one believe that I should have transferred there?

Thats funny to me.

So you're a Bama fan too. :emlaugh:

Come on JR, say Roll Tide with me . . . here we go ROLLLLLL TIDE ROLL!!!

There, that wasn't so bad, was it?

Duece,
I don't dislike Bama. Actually, my old man was a Bear Bryant fan. LOL. Funny you say I should go ahead and say Roll Tide. I have been saying that to one of my co-workers who is from Baton Rouge and loves LSU even though he went to some school up North to play baseball. I even got him to say Roll Tide now as a joke every time he sees. We gave him the blues after that BCS title game.

Please, don't get me wrong. I wasn't saying the fact that you root for Alabama should have been the reason you transferred to U of Alabama. I was saying the fact that you said you spent a lot of time on U of Alabama's campus and had a lot of fun there and how you posted that U of Alabama was a great place to go to school even for minorities should have been the reason you transferred to U of Alabama.

I totally get your point about having a favorite team or rooting for the team of your choice. I've stated over and over again how I'm an AFC fan, an SEC fan (except Arkansas), and I'm a huge Nick Saban fan.

So you saying that you will support the university of alabama with this tribute over Alabama State on The Swac Page

It ain't the first time. He just took down some thing advertising a BAMA game. I hope he went there or the sadness will be sadder.

But congrats to him and BAMA and who ever cares.

Neither program has a history of being good.... they are the bottom feeders of the SEC and should be in Conference USA. There are more people at Alabama home games than MSU and Ole Miss combined on gameday Saturdays.

DaHill, it wouldn't matter to me and most of my classmates from HS if they had been 20 time National Champs. We just got animosity towards them mofos. Even a lot of my white classmates bolted and didn't go to either school. Just don't like their arses period. It was the way I was raised. My old man turned me on to the up North and West coast schools for academics and sports. He liked Bear Bryant but that was about it when it came to PWC football in the South. The only schools in the South we rooted for openly were HBCUs and in my household it was JSU until I went off to SU for undergrad. I was even an Ohio State fan as a kid. We just liked to see Ole Miss and State get their arses kicked by any team. LOL. Now the newer school kids in the SIP may not feel that harshly towards them. I don't know. But even if they were powerhouses, I would hate their arses and everything they stand for. I don't want those Necks to celebrate isht. So if Bama or any other SEC school beats them to oblivion every year, it is fine by me. LOL.

What does my dear alma mater have to do with a football team I was a fan of for ten years before I ever attended ASU?

.

I guess you would have to live in Alabama to understand. How did that even happen? I just so happen to believe that if MS State or Ole Miss were football powerhouses, we would still not give a rats azz about them. I have been around black people from almost every state. I have been in Pennsylvania about 7 years. Black folks up here don't even have really big HBCUs but they have no love for Penn State. It's just amazing that you all give you time, money and support to them. So I don't get it. I don't understand it and I don't want to understand it. However, I do see it as a trend nowadays. I have some cousins who support LSU like they went there and they haven't been to college AT ALL. I guess you all can look at it like you support a NBA team, a NFL team, a HBCU team and PWC team. The rest of the world is just not there yet.

Exactly. In fact, if they were powerhouses, we might just hate them MORE.

but Ms Stsate or Ole Miss have mostly been bottom feeders so its hard for you to say IF they were a powerhouse.... Nobody cares about UAB, Troy, South Alabama because they have no tradition of being good.... This has nothing to do with Blacks in Alabama.... Go on UAB campus and I PROMISE you will see more Bama gear than UAB gear.... same thing at Troy, UNA, Jax State, etc.

OK96lioness.

But for the record, I spent a lot of time on a lot of college campuses when I was an undergraduate. I spent a WHOLE LOT of time on Tuskegee's campus (30 minutes from ASU), some time on Troy's campus (40 minutes from ASU), and a little bit of time on Auburn's campus (45 minutes from ASU). That's just the way it was around here. Bama State is very centrally located to those campuses except UA (hour and a half from ASU) , and all students from all campuses generally partied together - especially if you're in a fraternity.

But isn't UAB a U of Alabama system school? I mean I can see that. That happens in every state I believe. Most folks identify with the big dog in the state even if they went elsewhere. I saw it in Ohio when I went to Ohio State for grad school. Mofos forgot about their undergrad school in Ohio and were Ohio State scarlet and gray and you would see it throughout the state. Folks with Miami of Ohio degrees rooting for the Buckeyes. Same thing I saw in Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

As for us. Ole Miss still calls themselves Ole Miss for Old Mississippi. Don't matter if they were a powerhouse, I think the blacks over 35 will still not really care for them in our state. One of the reasons they can't win is their attitudes. Bear Bryant was able to change that in Alabama with football. Had Bear Bryant been Ole Miss coach and gotten them to change their ways and maybe called themselves by their real name the University of Mississippi and of course win some titles. Then maybe folks would feel differently about the team. Had Bear Bryant never graced the Alabama campus and stayed at Kentucky or either Texas A&M, yall might hate on them too. LOL. But again, the younger blacks in the state are more accepting on State and Ole Miss. I can only speak of my friends who went to HS with me. We grew up too pro HBCU and back then, a JSU would have beaten them sad arse mofos in the 70s when I was a kid in grade school. Hell USM struggled with JSU in the late 80s after my kinfolk ran all over them. LOL.

JR,

I can agree with that.

True! I lived in Pontotoc, MS, so I was only 30 minutes from Ole Miss. My parents and other black people that I knew didn't like them. I think their history of past racism really hurt them. The younger generation is flocking to Ole Miss and State. While I was in my hometown for Easter a few weeks ago, I saw a lot of kids wearing Ole Miss and State shirts and some had tags on their cars. I guess the younger generation feels that those schools are changing. I've never really had a problem with State. I visited the campus my senior year in high school. They have a nice campus and engineering program. My goal was to go out of state to college to an HBCU.

I think it's an Alabama Pride thing. When I was in school at Gram, there were a lot of people there from Alabama. They loved the University of Alabama and would proudly wear their gear. When I lived in Huntville, most of the black people I knew there were big Alabama fans.

I won't say they are flocking but since you are from that area, you probably see it more than I do in Southern MS. Down there, those kids like USM.

Me neither...I loved going to Starkville especially during Blue & White week... nice campus. Never had any remotely bad experience there (unless you count the Iotas stepping during a B&W week Greek show and almost burning down the house literally with fire  ) at MSU. Had some frats who went there for their Masters in Engineering.

Ole Miss: as a teen running track (mid-90's), we were watching an event and up the hill were some white students who were calling the runners ******s. That has always left a bad taste in my mouth for them and even when I applied and got a scholarship from them, I just couldn't go. Slowly changing but got a LONG way to go (such as The Grove tradition and dressing up in attire from the old days.... ON NATIONAL TV smh)

.Every BCS National Championship Football team has been from the Great State of Alabanjorape.

Now, I know some of you geniuses out there are saying to yourselves, "wait a minute Deuce, didn't Florida win the championship in Obama's first year?". The answer is No. George W. Bush was President when Florida won the championship. Obama was President-Elect, and had not been sworn in.

Now you know.

I think it's an Alabama Pride thing.

Just like kids from South Florida(Miami, Palm Beach, Broward County) who attend FAMU but love the University of Miami...no matter how BACKWARDS I think it is, people feel that "The U" represents their city which I guess holds the same for Alabama.
I pull for FSU from time to time because I'm from Tallahassee...but I'll never straight up rep them above Florida A&M

Ain't nothing wrong with cheering for a PWC from your hometown/state. I can see if they are playing against a SWAC school or something like that, but if two PWCs are playing, why not root for the one from your hometown/state unless you're an alumni of that out of that PWC or have other reasons for rooting for them. I'm not gonna root for Ohio State (yeah a dig at you JR lol) to beat LSU just to go against the hometown PWC.

4 More Years! 4 More Years! 4 More Years!

President OBama in the last 4 years has welcomed teams from the state of Alabama to the White House. Well guess what........President OBama has 4 more years. The Bama dynasty will last at least as long as President OBama is in office. Bama will beat Texas A&M by 17 or more points next year, Oregon is too light in the ???, and (sorry JR) Ohio State is not in Bama's league..............

PS: Kirby Smart and Nick Saban with several months and a bye week to prepare for Texas A&M.......It's gone be ugly!
