Fifth-seeded Parkview Baptist took its time finding an offensive rhythm against No. 12 Loranger. It was a luxury the Eagles could afford as their airtight defense and special teams set the tone early.

Boosted by a defensive touchdown and a pair of safeties, Parkview rolled to a 41-7 win over the visiting Wolves in regional round Class 3A playoff action.

“The defense and special teams came out and did a great job,â€￾ Parkview coach Kenny Guillot said. “We fumbled on our first series and that didn’t help. We had a big penalty on the next series and that didn’t help. “After we settled down a little we got it cranked up and did alright.â€￾

The Kittens (8-4) handed the Tigers (11-1) their first loss and their lowest offensive output of the season.

“We knew we had played a brutal schedule early in the season, which prepared us to play a team like this,” Southern Lab coach Michael Roach said. “We knew they had been scoring a lot of points, but I didn’t know if they had played a team as physical as we are.”

JONESVILLE — It took White Castle running back Tyree Bracken a little while to get going, but once he did, it was bad news for Block High.

Bracken finished with with 280 yards on 29 carries with three touchdown runs to spark White Castle to a 36-19 win over Block to advance to the Class 1A quarterfinals.

Bracken had 42 yards rushing midway through the second quarter, but got rolling with a a game-changing 57-yard touchdown run.

That touchdown run and ensuing two-point conversion, also by Bracken, gave the Bulldogs a lead they would never relinquish.

“He dominated,â€￾ said White Castle coach Ferrante Dominique. “We watched the film of St. Mary’s running right at them and we knew we could do the same.â€￾

METAIRIE — Through seven weeks of district action and one Class 3A playoff game, the Holy Cross defense surrendered 15 points.

West Feliciana didn’t seem to mind.

Led by explosive senior quarterback DeShawn Morrison, the 11th-seeded Saints rolled up 388 yards of offense — all but 30 on the ground — en route to a 26-14 victory over the sixth-seeded Tigers on Friday night at East Jefferson’s Joe Yenni Stadium.

Morrison scored on runs of 2 and 28 yards as West Feliciana flexed its muscle early, taking a 14-0 lead through one quarter. He later scored on a 42-yard keeper, his speed too much for the Holy Cross defense to contain.

By the end, Morrison had 224 yards on 21 carries, and the senior-laden Saints were marching on.

KENNER — Against a 23-time state football title titan such as John Curtis, many a first-round victor has been transformed into a second-round victim —the latest being the Cubs of University High.

Only mustering one first down and a meager 48 yards in the first half, U-High fell behind 35-0 and was eliminated from the Class 2A playoffs by Curtis 42-13 Friday night at Muss Bertolino Playground.

Curtis (10-1) will meet District 9-2A rival Riverside in the quarterfinals. The Patriots won the first meeting against the Rebels 55-24.

It was a tough night for area teams in the second round of the Class 2A and 1A state football playoffs.

University High. Donaldsonville. Episcopal. Capitol. They all went down to defeat Friday.

There were, however, some bright spots.

In Class 1A, White Castle pulled off a 36-19 upset at No. 2-seeded Block. No. 12 Southern Lab advanced with a 25-3 win at No. 5 St. Mary. And East Feliciana moved into the Class 2A quarterfinals with a convincing 56-32 win over Newman.

Class 2A

EVANGEL 38, CAPITOL 8: In Shreveport, Capitol High Academy came up a failed two-point try in overtime short against Evangel in last year’s Class 2A semifinals.

This time, Capitol’s Brenton Terrance returned the opening kickoff 93 yards for a touchdown and an 8-0 Lions lead.

This time, Lutcher — which trailed Teurlings Catholic by 18 points at halftime — saw its season end abruptly when the Rebels scored with 8:37 remaining to take a 32-25 Class 4A regional playoff victory in a game played at Carencro High.

 hell no.

South Plaquemine, White Castle or Southern Lab are going to win. They have by far the best athletes.
I hope SU Lab go to the Dome!!!!!! South Plaquemine look like the real deal but they won 40-26. I think SU Lab has a good defense. Their coach is having 2 a days starting next week. He is very serious about this.

St. Augustine rallies to 27-21 win over Ouachita

St. Augustine quarterback Terry Lucas tossed a 30-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Lorenzo Doss with 19 seconds left to lift the 10th-seeded Purple Knights to a 27-21 Class 5A regional playoff victory against seventh-seeded Ouachita in Monroe on Friday.

The Purple Knights (9-2) will play host to second seed St. Thomas More of Lafayette next week in the quarterfinals.

St. Augustine rallied from a 21-14 deficit in the fourth quarter for the victory.

The Purple Knights got two touchdown passes from Lucas in the fourth quarter. In addition to the game-winning strike to Doss, Lucas passed 11 yards to Marc Edwards for a touchdown to tie the score at 21 with 9:35 left in the game. Lucas completed 11 of 25 passes for 136 yards and three touchdowns.

Game will be at Mumford...on Fri Nite.

Lab does have a good defense and I have them WINNING!

   Too bad, we are going to New Orleans that Friday!!!! Don't want to see that MESSecre. (Band Battle)

SP is arguably one of the most talented team Lab has faced all season. Can't say that in reverse. It would be good to see Lab pull it off and keep rolling, but there's a reason why SP won two out of the last three titles. It's going to be a track meet out there.

I dont agree. Lab's regular season schedule was really tuff, Redemtp and East Feliciana. I dont think SP is as talented as either one of those teams. Lab's defense is really tuff. If they stay away from turnovers I like Labs chances. I saw lab play 3 times this season.

They were the only team to hold Jeremy Hill for Redemp to under 100 yards. South Plaquemine lost to teams that finished below .500. They beat teams in their district who were like 1-9, 0-10, and 2-8. I think Lab will win this game. I hope they go to the Dome.

Heard SP is one diminsional. I dont care who they have in the backfield, they just cant run on Lab and expect to beat them, when all of Labs LB's are D-1 prospects.

My god brother told me that the boy Brandon Sylve plays QB when he is listed as WR. He is going to Alabama and they use him as QB because of his speed. That's about the only person they have. I think Lab can score on them, because they can't stop the run and they had over 200 rushing on St Mary.

The BR schools have some tough games:

I can't see SU Lab beating the powerhouse South Plaquemines. This is unchartered territory for SU Lab, and South Plaquemines is used this type of situation.

East Feliciana also has a tough game against Calvary Baptist. CB is a level under Evangel and John Curtis, they are capable of making a run at the title. Even if EF can pull the upset, they would have to face Curtis next, and we know how that will turn out.

That West Feliciana and Amite game is very interesting. If WF wins, that would mean 3 of the final 4 teams would be from the same district. I think WF can win this game and get another shot at Redemptorist.

While they are not dominating the games, Dutchtown continues to advance. They have a winnable game against Westgate before having to face Jesuit or WM for the trip to the dome.

If EF gets past Calvary, which they should, they will give Curtis a game. EF has some game changers.

While that may be true, Curtis has the huge advantage with coaching and playoff experience(no disrespect to my old P.E. coach).
