You know.... I just might pull out the grill! Two purple and gold teams in two weeks... First Byrd, now St. Aug.... My goodness!

Coach Roach got them boys ready. Lab had that game won.

I might swing by there tonight.

They play the Saint Mary school who beat the 23rd or 28th team 14-7 so SU Lab should pull the upset even though I wouldn't be shocked.

I agree with most of those picks. I am not sold on Capitol over Evangel. It wouldn't surprise at all to see that happen, but I don't think they can pull it off on the road.

Zachary is going to get destroyed by Acadiana. Those dudes made the #7 seed look like a 0-10 team. Acadiana is on a mission after forfeiting those games. That is scary to have to play probably the best team in the state in the first or second round despite you being a Top 11 seed.

That Donaldsonville-Calvary Baptist game is gonna be a shootout! Also Capitol-Evangel. I covered the classic overtime Kentwood-Evangel overtime state semifinal game a couple years ago. Capitol CANNOT make mistakes. Evangel will have done their homework prior to the game and will take what the defense gives them.

Evangel and Calvary are beatable, but D'ville and Capitol gotta execute on both sides of the ball.

I've never been sold on St.Paul's of Covington, and that northshore 5A district is overrated. They will see, and get merked by Acadiana in the quarters next week.

East Feliciana is in for a shootout against Isadore Newman, but EF cannot underestimate Newman. EF should win by double digits.

I got a feeling we'll see West Feliciana vs. Amite in the quarters, although Holy Cross isn't a pushover for the WF Saints. I can see ED White going to Marksville and beating the Tigers, but I doubt it will happen.

If we get to see Southern Lab vs. South Plaquemines in the quarters, then that game will be in Baton Rouge (since Lab's the lower seed and was on the road for the St. Mary's game). Oak Grove is a traditional 1A power and will be a tough out for the SP 'Canes. Don't know much about St. Mary's-Natchitoches, but Lab arguably is the most talented team left in the 1A bracket

I'm pulling for The Lab to win, and also for my people up in Jonesville to win. From what I hear about St. Mary's they sound like a well disciplined football team.

If Chad Germany runs the ball, Capital will win going away. They have a college sized o-line, with a LSU commit Corey White the anchor man.

I'm just glad the playoffs have seeding now, rather than the old ways. There are no easy games in the playoffs now, and that's how it should be.

Also, pay attention to Notre Dame vs. Independence. They've met plenty of times in the playoffs (semis & quarters)...Marshall Bellazan is another traditionally good Indy RB. Should be a 19-14 type game.

Lab has to play their best game against them. They have 2 FB's the size of Brandon Jacobs.

Acadiana's a totally different monster than your traditional low-20s seed. Zachary and everyone else on that side of the bracket is like shat! they fell down to what? If it weren't for the sanctions, they'd would've been a top five seed in the 5A bracket. You saw how they just dismantled ESJ like it wasn't nothing. I never seen ESJ get mollywhopped like that, ever.

Back to Capitol/Evangel. Both teams are going to try to keep their opposing offenses off the field. This game might be lower-scoring than what most people think. This game will boil down to turnovers.

Delhi Charter beat #1 seed Westmiinsters azz in 1A, Way to go Delhi Charter. Quachita Chrisitian is the team to beat in 1A.

Turnovers key East Feliciana win

CLINTON — If the old adage that offense wins games, but defense wins championships, the East Feliciana Tigers may be well on their way.

The Tigers defense forced seven turnovers, returning two for touchdowns sparking fourth-seeded East Feliciana to a 56-32 win over 13th-seeded Newman in the regional round game of the Class 2A playoffs at Calvin E. Chapman Memorial Stadium at East Feliciana Middle School on Friday.

Gilbert Grogan had three interceptions, returning two for touchdowns as East Feliciana (11-0) picked off six Ryan Brenner passes. EFHS had six takeaways in the first half, converting three into touchdowns with two interception returns for scores.

Acadiana ends Zacharys turnaround season with 49-7 win

SCOTT — Two years into the tenure of its coach Neil Weiner, Zachary High School has a solid foundation in place. But the Broncos will have to wait until next season to add to the structure the program built in 2010.

A year after a challenging three-win season, No. 11 Zachary saw its bid for a double-digit win total and trip to the Class 5A quarterfinals end Friday at the hands of one of the state’s top programs when No. 27 Acadiana scored a 49-7 regional victory at Bill Dotson Stadium.

“I don’t think you ever get satisfied with where you are,” Weiner said. “You can be proud of the direction we’re headed. What this senior class did from one year to the next, our football program will remember for a long time and be very proud of those guys.”

Acadiana (7-5) continued to steamroll anyone in its path since having to forfeit four victories because of the use of an ineligible player. The Wreckin’ Rams, who have outscored their last four opponents 224-20, advanced to their sixth straight quarterfinal and will host No. 3 St. Paul’s, a 31-28 winner over New Iberia.

Prescott passes Haughton past No. 14 Woodlawn

QB throws for 478 yards, four TDs

HAUGHTON — Missed opportunities and too much Dak Prescott.

Those seven words summed up why No. 14-seed Woodlawn High School did not succeed in its Class 4A regional-round football playoff game Friday night.

The Panthers missed a key chance to get closer to third-seeded Haughton each half. For every Woodlawn opportunity, third-seeded Haughton led by Mississippi State commitment Prescott had the answer en route to a 54-35 victory.

The Bucs senior quarterback played with a brace an injured knee. There was nothing wrong with his arm as he completed 20 of 37 passes for 478 yards and four TDs, holding off Woodlawn with a basket full of big plays.

With the victory, Haughton (12-0), the only remaining unbeaten team in 4A, advances to host No. 6 Franklinton (10-1) in the quarterfinals.

Talbert's two punt returns for TDs spark Redemptorist over Richwood

MONROE — Senior Nico Talbert returned two punt for touchdowns to help Redemptorist beat Richwood 40-0 in a Class 3A regional playoff game Friday night.

The Wolves (10-1) advance to take on Patterson, which beat Kaplan 49-28, in the quarterfinals.

Richwood (6-6) looked prime to pull off an upset early as it nearly scored on the opening possession. However, a fourth- down pass inside the Wolves 10-yard line was broken up to thwart the drive.

Redemptorist answered by driving the length of the field and took a 7-0 lead when Kyle Cedatol connected with Denzeil Warner for a 16-yard touchdown.

“Happy to get the win,” Redemptorist coach Guy Mistretta said. “We were fortunate enough to dodge a couple of bullets in the first half. They (the Rams) took that first drive all the way down the field on us, and we just were not ready defensively.
