Following a historic 2024-2025 season for the Bluefield State men’s basketball team, their men’s basketball coach, Devin Hoehn, announced his departure, and they will now embark on a new era.
“It’s been the honor of my lifetime to lead the men’s basketball program here at Bluefield State,” said Hoehn in a statement posted to X. “Throughout the last four years, we have built something truly special, culminating in our recent appearance in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region tournament for the first time in nearly 30 years.”
This past season, Hoehn led the Big Blue to a 19-12 overall record, marking a 10-win improvement over their previous year and the team’s first winning season in over a decade.
The team advanced to their first-ever CIAA championship game in the CIAA tournament after knocking off the Southern division champion Fayetteville State Broncos in the semifinals.
Despite losing in the title game against Virginia State, Bluefield State was selected as an at-large bid to the Division II Men’s Basketball tournament. This marked their first national tournament appearance since 1996.
Hoehn concluded, “Leaving is never easy, but I’m grateful for every moment, lesson, and friendship from my time at Bluefield State. This place will always have a place in my heart. Thank You.”
Coach Hoehn is one of two CIAA men’s basketball coaches who have been announced to be departing from their teams this offseason, along with Fayetteville State head coach Luke D’Alessio.
