HBCU Sports has confirmed that Crarey will step into the vacancy that opened when Donte’ Jackson left to take the same position at Alabama A&M.
Crarey, a successful coach at Washington (DC) Adventist and St. Thomas (FL), was hired as Florida A&M men’s basketball coach on a one-year contract following administrative upheaval and questions from the FAMU board of trustees about his coaching ability.
Crarey led WAU to a United States Collegiate Athletic Association championship in 2014 and four NAIA national tournament appearances. He coached St. Thomas from 2021 to 2024, guiding that school to two NAIA tournament appearances and winning records each of his three seasons on the job.
Crarey led the Rattlers to a 14-17 record overall and a 10-8 record, their best mark since an 11-7 showing in 2021-22. FAMU defeated Prairie View A&M in the first round of the SWAC tournament before falling to eventual runner-up Jackson State.
