Florida A&M could be close to naming the football field at Bragg Memorial Stadium after a Pro Football Hall of Famer.
The school’s Naming Committee recently approved a recommendation to name the field at Bragg Memorial Stadium after former Rattlers football player Ken Riley, The Tallahassee Democrat reported.
The next step in the process would be an additional recommendation by FAMU President Larry Robinson and approval of the school’s Board of Trustees, which will be discussed during a board meeting on Thursday, the newspaper reported.
“If approved, Rattlers will drive on Bob Hayes Lane, take their seats in Bragg Memorial Stadium and watch championship football on Ken Riley Field. Truly, a winning experience,” FAMU athletics director Tiffani-Dawn Sykes stated in a recommendation letter to Robinson.
Riley — who died in 2020 was among nine former coaches and players elected to the Hall during the NFL Honors awards show in February.
Riley played quarterback at FAMU and was later drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the sixth round as a defensive back. He was later inducted into the Black College Football Hall of Fame in 2015.
During his NFL career, Riley was named All-Pro four times and retired with the fourth most career interceptions, with 65 in 14 seasons.
Riley will be enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Aug. 5. in Canton, Ohio.
