Among the few Week Zero college football games scheduled to begin the 2018 season, two of the games featured HBCU teams.
Prairie View A&M made the short trip to Houston to face Rice (an FBS school), while No. 14 North Carolina A&T met No. 6 Jacksonville State in the Guardian Credit Union FCS Kickoff.
The Panthers fell to Rice 31-28 on the final play of the game after the Owls successfully scored on a 23-yard field goal with two seconds remaining.
North Carolina A&T, in the midst of a 13-game winning streak, topped Jacksonville State 20-17.
First-year head coaches currently lead both HBCU programs.
