Among the few Week Zero college football games scheduled to begin the 2018 season, two of the games featured HBCU teams.

Prairie View A&M made the short trip to Houston to face Rice (an FBS school), while No. 14 North Carolina A&T met No. 6 Jacksonville State in the Guardian Credit Union FCS Kickoff.

The Panthers fell to Rice 31-28 on the final play of the game after the Owls successfully scored on a 23-yard field goal with two seconds remaining.

North Carolina A&T, in the midst of a 13-game winning streak, topped Jacksonville State 20-17.

First-year head coaches currently lead both HBCU programs.

    HBCU beating Division 1/FBS SCHOOLS IS NOT A OCCURRENCE Morgan St did it in 1965, Grambling did it in the 1970′ s
    FAMU DID IT IN THE 1970 IN TRACK AND FIELD UNDER DR. LEROY WALKER AT NCCU DID IT AT THE D1 NCAA TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIP IN THE 1970’S
