The SWAC’s football championship game was supposed to die at the conclusion of last year’s event at NRG Stadium in Houston, but the City of Birmingham (Ala.) has given the game at least one more year to live.

On Friday the Southwestern Athletic Conference announced a one-year partnership with the City of Birmingham that will result in the conference football championship game to be played at Legion Field.

According to reports, the City of Birmingham will assist in handling certain travel expenses related to hotel, flights, and busses.

Scheduled for Dec. 1, the game will kick off at the venue where it first began back in 1999 before moving to Houston in 2013.

What do you think? Do you agree with the SWAC’s decision to play the SCG in Birmingham? Take a moment to participate in our poll below.  The poll ends Saturday (July 21) at midnight.

I hate the fact that they moved the championship game back to Birmingham. I attended the games each time Grambling or Southern played in the championship game. It’s always freezing cold, and the seating is uncomfortable. The tailgating is the best part, but it doesn’t compensate for making fans suffer through the elements at Legion Field. Give me Houston any day…the weather was a non-factor!!!
