GOODWELL, Okla. – The No. 8 Langston Lions continued their winning ways after holding off Central States Football League opponent Panhandle State 27-14 on Saturday, Oct. 28.
The Lions struck pay dirt first when Jaylen Lowe (JR/Collinsville, Okla.) tossed a 13-yard touchdown pass to Cedric Jackson (JR/Marrero, La.) to put Langston in front 7-0 at the 5:31 mark in the first quarter.
Langston continued to push forward and added a two-yard touchdown run and 27-yard touchdown reception by Tim Whitfield (FR/Meeker, Okla.) in the second quarter and lead 21-0 at intermission.
Lowe tacked on a 32-yard touchdown to open the third quarter and the Lions built a commanding 27-0 advantage; Panhandle State mounted a comeback but fell short after adding a 21-yard and one-yard touchdown run to trim the lead to 27-14 at the 11:48 mark in the fourth quarter.
Lowe finished nine-for-24 for 60 yards and one touchdown; he picked up 61 yards and one score on the ground. Whitfield led the rushing attack with 62 yards on 14 carries with one touchdown.
Charles Harvin led the Langston defense with 11 tackles with Eugene Fuller (SO/Stockbridge, Ga.) right behind him with nine tackles.
The victory keeps Langston perfect at 8-0 overall and 6-0 in the CSFL. The Lions square off against Southwestern Assemblies of God next Saturday at 2 p.m.; both squads are atop the CSFL standings at 6-0.
