NEW ORLEANS, La. – After much consideration the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference has announced that Voorhees College will no longer compete as a member of the conference.
Voorhees College, which joined the conference for the 2013-14 season, competed in men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball, baseball, softball, cross country, and track and field.
Statement from GCAC Commissioner Steve Martin:
“On behalf of each of the member institutions of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference we wish Dr. (Cleveland) Sellers and everyone at Voorhees College the very best moving forward. We have been proud to have them as a member of the GCAC and we are sorry to see them leave at this time. With that, the GCAC has a more than 30 year tradition of athletic excellence and in developing outstanding student-athletes. Our foundation remains strong and we are prepared to continue to push ahead with our focus on making the GCAC one of the top athletic conferences in the NAIA.”
