The NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships have concluded with a notable win for an HBCU athlete in the field events.

Voorhees sophomore Michael Tatnall took home the triple jump title, setting the winning mark of 15.82 meters (a new personal best) on his first attempt.

His winning measurement is the best that has been recorded in an NAIA Outdoor Championship since 2021.

This was Tatnall’s second year in a row qualifying for the NAIA Outdoor National Championships in triple jump, finishing 10th in last year’s event, jumping 14.48 meters.

Tatnall’s win marks the third National Championship in a row that has seen an HBCU athlete take home the triple jump title.

Xavier University of Louisiana’s Seth Alexander took home the championship in this year’s Indoor Championship and last year’s Outdoor Championship.

Alexander and XULA teammate Blake Harris finished in fourth and fifth place, respectively, in the Outdoor Championships.
