ROCK HILL, S.C.  –  The Benedict College Lady Tigers and the Morehouse College Maroon Tigers are the outdoor track and field champions for the 2015 season.

On a day threatened by cloudy skies and a chance of rain, several individual titles and relay titles were decided at the Irwin Belk Track on the campus of Winthrop University.

Individually, four student athletes were honored for their performances on the weekend.  Krishanda Campbell-Brown took the awards for the top female field athletes and the Cleve Abbott Individual Award for the top overall point total during the three-day competition. Campbell-Brown tallied 54 points on the weekend, garnering three first-place awards in the pole vault, long jump and triple jump along with a second place in the heptathlon and a third-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles. Her Lady Tiger teammate Jonnise Pierce won the award for the top female track athlete of the weekend, winning the 10,000-meter run and the 3,000 meter steeplechase and claiming third-place in both the 800-meter run and the 1,500-meter run.

On the men’s division, Benedict’s Dessie Demlew won the award as the top track performer of the meet, winning both the 10,000-meter run and the 3,000-meter steeplechase and taking second in the 1,500-meter run.  Aaron Bennett of Tuskegee tallied 28 points over three days, winning the discus and shot put while taking third in the hammer throw.

In the team standings, Benedict tallied 214 points for the women’s title while Albany State (199.5 points) was second and Clark Atlanta (165 points) finished third.  In the men’s standings, Morehouse tallied 167 points for the men’s title.  Albany State finished second with 130 points while Benedict was third with 126 points.
