After leading Texas Southern to consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament, head coach Mike Davis received a five-year contract extension, the school announced.
Davis, who had three years left on his current contract, will be Texas Southern’s coach until 2020 under the new agreement.
“Coach Davis has elevated our basketball program to heights that we haven’t achieved in over 20 years,” said Charles McClelland, TSU’s vice president for intercollegiate athletics. “We needed to solidify him for future years to come. We wanted to show him and his family that we want him to be a part of the Tiger family for many years.”
TSU won the conference tournament in 2014 and 2015 under Davis. It was the second time the school had reached the NCAA Tournament in back-to-back years since the 1994 and 1995 seasons.
“I’m excited,” Davis said. “We are on our way to doing some great things.
“We did some good things this year. You’ve got to keep the momentum going, and this gives me the momentum. The kids know I’m going to be here.”
Davis has a 54-42 record in three seasons at TSU and 44-10 record in SWAC play.
