After dominating defending SWAC champion Southern and East Division favorite Alabama State in consecutive weeks, Alcorn State has found a spot in the FCS Coaches Top 25 poll.

Alcorn State is currently ranked No. 24 in the poll, a spot a head of Tennessee State. Bethune-Cookman, ranked No. 17, is the other HBCU school in the weekly poll.

Alcorn State (5-1, 3-0 SWAC) is having a breakout year, enjoying the program’s longest win streak since 2006. The team has won 14 of its last 18 games dating back to last season.

They are firing on all cylinders on both sides of the ball.  This season marks the first time in more than a decade the Alcorn State offense has scored at least 50 points in four regular season games.  Alcorn’s defense has also given up just 12.5 points per game, holding four opponents to 10 points or less, which leads the conference.

Their only loss this year came on the road at the hands of FBS opponent Southern Mississippi on Sept. 6.

Alcorn State leads the SWAC in 16 different categories and are ranked nationally in several as well, including second in rushing offense and sacks.
