ITTA BENA – Mississippi Valley State Interim Director of Athletics Donald Ray Sims has been selected to receive the 2011 Charles “Chuck” Prophet Wagon Master Award. The award will be presented during the SWAC Alumni Association’s annual Legends Reception and Roast Dec. 9 at the Doubletree Hotel in Birmingham, Ala.
Former Alabama State head football coach Houston Markham is the guest of the honor for the Roast.
The Wagon Master Award is named in honor of Chuck Prophet, the longtime sports information director and athletic director at Mississippi Valley State University. The SWAC Alumni Association presents the award annually to an employee of a conference member institution who best exemplifies Chuck’s spirit, dedication and loyalty to their school and the SWAC.
Also that evening, former Jackson State Athletic Director Dr. Walter Reed, former Alcorn State track and field coach Dr. Grant Dungee and former Grambling State Sports Information Director Collile J. Nicholson will receive Lifetime Achievement Awards for the contributions to SWAC athletics. Nicholson will also be honored posthumously.
Festivities begin at 6 p.m. with the Legends Reception followed by the awards presentation and Roast at 7 p.m.
