swacvolleyball07.gif#1 – Alabama A&M d. Texas Southern 3-0 (30-12, 30-18, 30-23)
Brittani Lewis and Madinah Abdullah combined for 22 kills, four aces and two blocks as the Lady Bulldogs took the match in the opening round of the 2007 SWAC Volleyball tournament. Lewis’s 12 kills were a match high as Alabama A&M swept the Lady Tigers. Emma Obi led Texas Southern with six kills and three blocks. Jerlessa King had 15 digs for Texas Southern.

#2 – Grambling State d. Jackson State 3-2 (30-17, 21-30, 25-30, 32-30, 15-9)
In a continuation of their memorable contests over the past three years, Grambling State found a way to win over the Lady Tigers of Jackson State. Kayla Williams (16 kills) along with Shawonna Davis (15 kills, two blocks) and Ashley Cooper (11 kills, block) led the Grambling State charge. Talon Morgan added 46 assists, eight kills, four aces and 11 digs.

For Jackson State, Shunta Issac had 11 kills and four blocks while Keesha Duminee, Amanda Daniels and Brittany Larkin each contributed nine kills.


#3 – Mississippi Valley State d. Arkansas-Pine Bluff 3-0 (32-30, 30-22, 30-26
Shatara Baydak finished with 16 kills and two aces while Kantessa Bryant added 13 kills and a block to lead the Devilettes to a straight-set victory over the Lady Lions.

Jasmine Jacobs and Krystalea Phillips each had 11 kills in the match. Jenitra Shields added 10 kills and five blocks.

#4 – Prairie View A&M d. Alabama State 3-0 (31-29, 30-17, 30-24)
TaCho Richard led the Lady Panther charge with 14 kills and five aces while Tamika Newman added 10 kills and three aces as Prairie View looked to defend their conference tournament title. Ashley Campbell had nine kills and a block in the match.

Shajuana Pina led the Lady Hornets with 11 kills and two blocks.

#5 – Jackson State d. Arkansas-Pine Bluff 3-1 (30-20, 30-21, 27-30, 30-14)
Arkansas-Pine Bluff eliminated

Keesha Duminee had 12 kills, one ace and three blocks led all players as Jackson State held off elimination in the tournament. Amanda Daniels added 10 kills while Whitney Nowlin finished with 22 assists and three aces.

Jasmine Jacobs led the Lady Lion charge with 10 kills and one ace.

#6 – Texas Southern d. Alabama State 3-0 (30-28, 30-11, 30-28)
Alabama State eliminated

Krystal Obi’s eight-kill, four-ace, five-block effort paced the Lady Tigers as they continued in the 2007 SWAC Volleyball Tournament. Alisa Morgan, Nicole Crane, and Emma Obi each had six kills in the contest.

Jessica Holt finished with eight kills and a block in the contest.

#7 – Grambling State d. Mississippi Valley State 3-2 (26-30, 21-30, 30-23, 30-27, 16-14)
An 18-kill, two-block effort by Shawonna Davis and a 16-kill effort by Kayla Williams led the Lady Tigers as they downed Mississippi Valley State in an emotional contest. Kendra Johnson added 10 kills and three blocks.

For Mississippi Valley State, Kantessa Bryant finished with 19 kills while Maura Moed had 16 kills and seven blocks. Shatara Baydak tallied 14 kills and five blocks in the game.

#8 – Alabama A&M d. Prairie View A&M 3-1 (22-30, 30-21, 30-25, 30-25)
Brittani Lewis’s 23 kills, two aces and two blocks paced the Lady Bulldogs as they remained undefeated in the tournament. Devona Williamsa had 11 kills, three blocks and three aces while Madinah Abdullah added 11 kills and a block.

Tamika Newman led the Lady Panthers with 18 kills and five blocks.

#9 – Prairie View A&M d. Jackson State 3-0 (30-18, 30-25, 30-24)
Jackson State eliminated

TaCho Richard (12 kils, two aces, two blocks) and Tamika Newman (11 kills, three blocks) led the Lady Panthers as they continued in the conference tournament. Shaun Williams and Ashley Campbell finished with nine and eight kills respectively.

Amanda Daniels had 10 kills and two blocks for Jackson State; Shunta Issac tallied nine kills in the game.

#10 – Mississippi Valley State d. Texas Southern 3-0 (30-17, 30-25, 30-26)
Texas Southern eliminated

Maura Moed finished with 14 kills and two blocks while Shatara Baydak added 11 kills, 11 digs and two aces as the Devilettes stayed alive in the tournament.

Emma Obi led Texas Southern with 11 kills and two blocks while Alisa Morgan with nine kills and a block.
