Jackson State’s Sonic Boom of the South marching band is no lightweight when it comes to performing timeless classic R&B covers. We’ve seen the band play classic hits by Maze featuring Frankie Beverly in performing Golden Time of Day and Can’t Get Over You, a performance we ranked among the best of 2015.
But the “The Boom”, ranked No. 2 in our HBCU preseason band poll for 2016, took it a step further last Saturday in Little Rock, Ark. when it brilliantly performed Babyface’s Whip Appeal from the 1989 album Tender Lover during the band’s fifth quarter performance against UAPB.
