Which is the One of the Ten Commandments that teaches that there is only ONE God?

and still folks want to act like there is three

hassan

You are absoutly correct and that's why folks are so confused. Some feel if it does not say "Thou Shall Not" is is not a commandment.

What about phrases like:

Thou Shall, I command thou, Obey [children obey your parents], Forsake not, they are all commands.

"Husband love your wife"

Is a command [ment] and is just as binding as 'Thou shall no kill"

There is a good Study Bible [Dakes] that has notations that tells if the scripure is a command [commandment].

Doc, i'm glad that someone is taking time to read and comprehend...

If our 1 God was 3 persons then saying Father, Son and Holy Spirit would be ok.

sounds like ... polytheism

.... some will ask,"Who was Jesus praying to and why was he always seeming to be talking as if him and his Father were seperate?"

When God came to earth, He was still in heaven also. God can act simutaneously in heaven and on earth. For that matter, he can be in as many locations as he wishis. He is the ALMIGHTY GOD. He can do that.

ok, i buy God being everywhere but why would God have to talk to himself?

are you saying that the Almighty is suffering from schizophrenia??

OK...Is God a spirit? Yes he is? Is he holy? Yes he is. Does that make him the HOLY SPIRIT? Yes it does...(John14:18 Jesus said,"I will not leave you confortless: I will come to you.") The Holy Spirit came to the deciples on Pentecost. This must mean that they all are the same person...The name is Jesus.

you're really stretching to "make" that point

God calls himself all powerful and almighty many times throughout the bible.(Genesis17:1 and 35:11)
Now read Romans13:1
1Tim6:15
Rev19:6
Titus1:2
Hebrews6:18

yes, and your point is?

God is eternal
Deuteronomy33:27
Isaiah9:6 and 44:6
1 Timothy1:17

no argument here

Only God is perfect.

so why beget what is already perfect?

Only God could die for us.

didnt you just say that God was eternal?

please make up your mind

...because it was the earthly man who died.

so you're trying to say that God was not eternal?

Who is the 4th man in the fire?

so now the trinity is not enough for you?
you have to have four?

God being born is the reason for the phrase"Son of GOd."

so you're still trying to tell us that God is not eternal

that which is eternal knows no beginning, no end

no birth, no death

birth and death are the beginning and ending of mortal beings - not the immortal

If I was able to give birth to myself and still be myself at the same time then who is my father? I would be my own father and it would have been my choice to send my self. Sounds confusing?

you bet it does - that could very be because it makes no kind of sense whatsoever

All we have to do is believe every word that comes out of his mouth with the best understanding possible.

so who gives us this best possible "understanding"?

God would be my guess

so why would God create us with an inherent inability to understand the things He needs us to understand

that, too, makes zero sense

The heathen king Nebuchadnezzar said,"lo, I see four men loose...and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God"

so now you're basing religious dogma on a quote from a heathen

However, in the original language(aramaic) there is no definite article before Son; that is, there is no (the) before the word Son in this verse. The NIV and TAB reads this phrase as"a son of the gods." The king was using heathen terminology and had no knowledge of the future arrival of the only begotten Son of God so it would have been impossible for hime to have made that statement. This is one of the few misstranslations of the King James version of the Bible. Most likely the king saw an angel, for he described this manifestation as an angel(Daniel3:28). It appears that the phrase"sons of God" can refer to angelic beings(Job38:7). At the most, what Nebuchadnezzar saw could only be a temporary theophany of God.

yes, there ARE mistranslations in the Bible - i'm finally glad to see that at least one of y'all is admitting to it

No one comes to the father But through [Jesus].

again, coming through Jesus to get to God implying that Jesus is a means to the end - not the end

This is more than adequate to prove that Jesus is Jehovah.

how do you figure?

all you have done is post a whole bunch of disjointed verbiage

I Corin 2:14
But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

POLYtheism???

WOW - what a concept!

I am glad that you do know better. Such a supposition is just flat wrong. Jesus never put His godliness on the shelf. His life was the literal display of godliness. Jesus did not do anything that Adam was not capable of doing.

It is apparent that you did not read the passages that I posted and don't understand what polytheism is. Polytheism says that the 3 would have to operate independently. They don't. They never have. They never will. They all operate together as God.

When he was here on earth as a man, he had no need to operate as God. If there had been such a need, then you and I would have an excuse for not walking as He did; it would be pointless for Him tell us to follow his example. All Jesus did was follow the Father's instructions - just like Adam was supposed to do.

They had many books of history - including the Torah - which chronicled polytheistic cultures. Judeo-Christian ethic only has one God - the Lord our God is one. The Greeks and Romans knew that. In fact it was one of the means for identifying and persecuting Christians.

I have to disagree with your statement:

?Jesus never put His godliness on the shelf. His life was the literal display of godliness.?

Take a few moments and read Philippians 2:6-8.

This is the Kenosis of Christ: Jesus emptied himself of divinity to become human and live among mankind. Based on this scripture Christ, had to ?put his divinity? on a shelf in order to live among men. There are other scriptures to support the idea of Christ ?setting aside? his divinity to dwell among men.

God, can not look at sin because of his holliness. That's why Jesus said in Mark 15:34

Hassan, please go back and re read everything I wrote. God is eternal. The earthly man died. God made a birth earthly through Mary. The Earthly man had a start, Not the man on the inside of the innocent body.

Actually, we agree. That is exactly the point that I was making.

Re: Which is the One of the Ten Commandments that teaches that there is only ONE God

God can not look at sin because of his holliness.
so what you're saying is that ?God has limits?

Gee, i was always taught to believe that God is all-powerful

Re: Which is the One of the Ten Commandments that teaches that there is only ONE God

THE BIBLE SAYS THAT ALL OF THE FULLNESS OF THE GODHEAD IS IN CHRIST. SO MY QUESTION TO YOU PEOPLE WHO THINK THAT JESUS PUT HIS DIVINITY ON THE SHELF, IS WHAT DO IT MEANS WHEN THE BIBLE SAYS THAT THE WORD WAS GOD? WHAT DOES IT MEAN WHEN JESUS SAID, WHEN YOU SEE ME YOU SEE THE FATHER. WHAT DOES JESUS MEAN WHEN HE SAID THAT HE AND HIS FATHER ARE 1? WHAT DOES IT MEAN WHEN THE BIBLE SAYS THAT JESUS WAS EQUIL WITH GOD? WHAT DOES IT MEAN WHEN JESUS SAID THAT "ALTHOUGH I LEAVE YOU, I WILL COME TO YOU (HOLY GHOST) WHAT DOES IT MEAN WHEN THE FULLNESS OF GOD IS IN CHRIST BODILY?

YOU SEE....THIS IS BIBLE....NOT ME......WHEN PEOPLE START READING AND STOP LISTENING THEN MAYBE THEY WILL GET IT. MAYBE IF PEOPLE RECIEVE THE SPIRIT, THEY CAN UNDERSTAND. SOME THINGS ARE ONLY REVEALED TO THE PEOPLE WITH THE SPIRIT. THAT IS WHY THEY CAN JUDGE ALL THINGS, BUT THEY THEMSELVES ARE NOT SUBJECT TO ANYONE'S JUDGEMENT.

i repeat the question:

?Which is the One of the Ten Commandments that teaches that there is only ONE God?

God has limits in that He chooses to limit Himself.

Can God forgive sin without me repenting? He certainly has the capacity; but He has set the order that repentance comes first.

Many blessings are conditional; "If..., then..." He limits Himself to doing certain things by our active participation.

please dont take offense but...

Truth often does. Deal with it.

I already answered that in post #11 of this thread.

Re: Which is the One of the Ten Commandments that teaches that there is only ONE God

The first commandment says that you should have no other God before me, it did not say before us, but before me. If you read all of the commandments you would see that God speaks in the singular form because he is a singular person. Every single commandments implies that he is only God, God declares that he is only one God throughout the bible, and the people declare throughout the bible that there is only one God.

Also, your question was which one of the ten commandments proves that there is only one God. If God stated that he is only one God in the ten commandments, then that would not be a commandment, he would have only made a statement. There are no statements in the 10 commandments, only commandments. There is a difference. In order to understand, you must read the bible. The whole bible teaches the onenes of God, not a God the Father, God the Son and God the HolySpirit. It Teaches of 1 God who is Father in creation, Son in redemption, and Holy Spirit in power. Like the bible says, These 3 are 1. In other words, these 3 titles all apply to the same person. JESUS.

Please don't. Look at the number of things that Jesus said that the Pharisees and Saducees thought sounded blasphemous.

I am not trying to be rude nor flippant.

Re: Which is the One of the Ten Commandments that teaches that there is only ONE God

dacontinent is right. God has all power and if he wants to split himself into 2 or 3 people then he can do it. If he want's to limit himself, in any way, he can do it. Because we don't know or understand something doessn't mean that it's not true or possible.

So, as you can see, it doesn't matter what we think about anything, It's not God's responsibiblity of how we see or interpret anything. The fact of what the truth is remains the same wether we understand or not. Spirit filled people can and will be able to understand. We have that ability. People without the spirit only rely on their human wisdom wich is not enough. You need the spirit of God to understand things of God. I am going to close with somethings that the Apostle Paul stated to all who think that they are saved.

James1:26-27
Galations1:11
Ephesians3:2-6
Romans16:25-27
Ephesians2:19-20 (the foundation is ACTS2:38)

The contradiction you posted speaks volumes.

Re: Which is the One of the Ten Commandments that teaches that there is only ONE God

In reading this thread and others, I've noticed that the vast majority of quoted scripture comes from the works AFTER the death of Jesus. I'm more inclined to go with 1st hand accounts myself.

Hassan, I don't preach about a Trinity. That is pagen and un true. There is only 1 God. Not a 3 in one. You asked me for some sorces once befor and I didn't have it on me. Now you can read for your self.

Last but not least, The Bible. You see Hassan, history and documented facts are not lies. Even the catholics will tell you that when they started there church 325ad, is when the name of Jesus was changed to Father, Son and Holy spirit because they started the doctrine of a Tri Unity God. Before then, All baptisms were done in the name of Jesus only because the Apostles understood that there was only 1 Lord. That's whay Peter said repent and be baptised for the rimmision of sins in the name of Jesus. I believe in the oneness because it's true. I have provided you some proof that history itself shows you when things started to go wrong. I am with you on that. There is one God. The Bible teaches that our 1 God existed in the form of a burning bush, as a Spirit that was Holy, and in human form with a earthly name Yashua (Jesus) Since The Jesus Form of the One God is the sacrifice of sin, then that makes his name above every name and you have to call his name and not say titles. Jesus is the one God Hassan. Not a person in a 3 part God known as the Trinity. There is no trinity, there is only 1 God.
