Terence Graves Calls Out "Celebrity" Coaching Hires

They can't because some of those boosters and alum in most cases do NOT want a black coach.
Because you got kids (mainly parents) who do NOT want to play for a black coach nor high schools that want a black coach recruiting their kids.
Especially not one being the head coach.

Yes many of those players HELPED cause the issue of talent drain in HBCUS but we can not let HBCUS off the hook.
What is North Dakota doing to get kids in football? And then win like crazy? What is in North Dakota?
Who are they recruiting? How did they get 4 players from Texas?

And the main reason they probably come to HBCU-expectations. You don't come here to win the National title. You just put out a competitive product.
They are getting the best players in their state and they have the resources to draw players and historical success to attract players.

I went to school with peanut aka Maurice "Mo" Williams. Andy Stoglin recruited Mo but Mo told Andy he was better than JSU, so Coach Andy focused on Tommy Hunter, Lindsey Hunter younger brother.

yes - but they do well with getting quality white linemen, defenders and tight ends - they have average skill guys
Trench dogs who love that area. The also benefit from that weather later in the season i.e more locals who grew up with that crap. Strong trench play with a decent qb, rb combo. And deep pockets.

Yet. to a struggling family they want the coach who can get their child some money,

Short term thinking by Black athletes & their families have gotten us here with our talent drain. Pre NIL I'm sure Vick got a nice car & his family's home paid off or something, but how many tens of millions did Vick make those folks over there at Virginia Tech? Now he's back slumming at a school he openly says was only a " backup plan" as an athlete.

Looking at North Dakota's roster
Some are 2-3 lettermen.
Have won state titles or been the runner up.
Play more than one sport
A few are kids of alums
and a reoccurring theme-academic All Americans.

Most of the players on that team are from Minnesota or Iowa. The few who are local as children of alums of the school. And there is a LARGE collection of players from Catholic private schools.
Private schools that control WHO is allowed to recruit their kids....

So where were black folks to EDUCATE those families?? Especially those church folks? Where were the HBCU alum at?
Where was our BET, Vibe, Right On, Source, Tv One and other media at?
Along with our high schools-who did NOTHING but grant free access to PWI.

Where were they at? That allowed HBCUs to get struggling kids that end up hurting AR ratings like we saw before.

The athlete worship is amazing & I see why they are so arrogant & entitled when people like you struggle to give them any agency or responsibility for themselves by blaming a lot of strange entities . Their decisions to go buckdance for pwis for a car & a few dollars in an envelope & be slurped on national tv was their own . That was their own decision & amazing how you completely stray away from a valid point Graves made to defend celebrity athletes.

Cause he went to Alabama doesn't make him a celebrity 🤣

Right. He's a celebrity in Alabama that's all

It's not necessarily on this board but people confuse guys having NFL experience with celebrity hires who were legit stars but having little to no coaching experience

Deion, Vick and DeSean are celebrity hires

Shade, E Rob and Dishman are not with Shade and Dishman earning their stripes in the coaching ranks

Who are you talking to?

The point that you so missed from probably a lack of intelligence buried under some misconception that all black athletes have some actual obligation to go to a HBCU.
Because they don't. You want to shame them for a choice and then get an attitude that they want to start a coaching career at a HBCU.
Under your logic they shouldn't because they didn't attend a HBCU.

So going by YOUR limited logic-the following coaches should NOT be coaches at HBCUs because they did not attend one.
Todd Bozeman should have NEVER coached at Morgan State.
Mike Davis formerly of Texas Southern.
Johnnie Jones of Texas Southern.
Reggie Theus AKA Coach Fuller of Hang Time at Cookman.

The point you missed by choice is not all of these kids are being talked to about HBCUS.
The few that are told about them-are NOT hearing from them.
They are at schools where HBCU alum don't exist.

Some are at schools where HBCU ALUM tell them to NOT go to a HBCU- now how do you counter that? A HBCU alum that played football or basketball telling kids to NOT go to a HBCU. Who will tell a kid how horrible it is. Who will tell a kid how horrible it is to play those money games because you got to support the entire program by taking beatings from Top 50 PWIs.

Does Graves have an answer for that? Maybe he needs to find an answer for that instead of worrying about guys like Jackson and Vick.
Or go find out who else applied or better yet those schools inquired about and got told NO by the person.
It's easy to say look at all these assistants and former coaches but in order to get one there has to be an INTEREST along with compensation that the person will agree to.
There is a reason we see head coaches quit and become assistants elsewhere. Money plays a part in that. Along with better shots at moving up.

I mean who here would go to say Sacramento Kings where a coach doesn't make it to year 3. And there is no assurance you will get another job once that severance check ends. Nobody is knocking on Ed Reed or Mark Jackson's doors.
Who is going to knock on Jerod Mayo's door?

Yall can throw shade on Shade all you want to, but so know we kicking all y'all azz in 2025. Let's go Bulldogs! Woof! Woof! Them Big Dawgs coming for your azz! Maynor is gone. Assume the position in get in the cut! We hazing all the SWAC!
Naw playa lol
