They aint lame. Just smart enough to leave Birmingham when they got the chance. No different than I did when I left Jackson and then BR after college. Hell I was just talking with them at the SCG and they were disappointed at how their hometown had not done isht. Do you really think folks around the US think B-ham is any better than Jackson and Baton Rouge? They are all in the same boat. To me it is the kettle calling the pot black. I've been to B-ham enough to know it aint no thriving metro. I rather be in cold arse Minneapolis than there. At least they have more to do. And its more white people here than B-ham. Again just my 2 cents. You don't have to agree.

JR ................. your wasting your time. Just let them think that B-Ham is the cutting edge city of the south an leave it at that.

The main college club in Jackson is SOUPS. It is HORRIBLE... a whole in the wall club. Birmingham has more clubs on 1st Ave (for Blacks) than Jackson has in the whole city for Blacks. Why do you think there are so many "housepartie" in Jackson.... and BTW Platinum of Birmingham is better than Freelons.

Now this is the funniest shat I have "heard" in a long time. SOUPS -------------- Man please. Not that it matters butt that ^^^^^^^ there tell's me that you don't know jack about Jackson. Jackson ain't no ATL or NAWLIN's, but if the best place you could find was SOUPS, you need a new guide.:lmao: :lmao:

BTW: Just so you will know ................... The main college club in Jackson is the Upper Level.

No one said that it was the any of that. But putting B-ham on the same playing field as a Jackson or BR is looney.

You are talking nonsense lol.... Huntsville's club scene is better than Jacksons for Blacks. The main college club in Jackson is SOUPS. It is HORRIBLE... a whole in the wall club. PLATINUM OF BIRMINGHAM

Now I dont know what you consider "nothing to do" so it is really mute for me to go back and forth with you. But Birmingham has 3 times more malls than Jackson does. Hell Hoover's night life is better than Jackson's.

LMAO!!! Alabama is lame PERIOD!!! my CB from Birmingham would tell you that. There's plenty of things to do in BR then the Party capital of the world (New Orleans) is 45 mins away.

I talk to SU students all the time and they tell me how dead Baton Rouge is... now Baton Rouge has casinos... thats a plus, but it isnt like BR has a tight night life for Blacks. Now Jackson students say ALL THE TIME how boring it is in Jackson....

true enough I may need a new guide when I come to Jackson. Everytime I go and ask where the party at, I hear SOUPS....I aint goin to Soups no damn more. We got high school clubs in Hville that look better and are larger than Soups. Birmingham downtown is jumpin EVERY weekend. I can drive straight through Jackson downtown easily on any weekend. How many malls does Jackson have?

Anyway, isn't this thread about SWAC womens' basketball? LOL Y'all can continue the "Bama-hate" after the tournement is over.

p.s. Congrats SU and Valley.

These numbers might help.

As a self-trained demographer and one who has lived in both BR and Jackson as well as in Alabama, this info might help. Birmingham is on a higher level then both Baton Rouge and Jackson and it should be. B'ham is ranked in a different population category and is consequently a bigger city. B'ham is considered a "big" city by SMSA standards while BR and Jack. are considered "medium-sized" cities. B'ham's population (proper) peaked at about 350,000 in the late '70s but has seen a steady decline to aboout 240,000 (about 65 % black) today. Its metro population stands at about 907,000 and includes Jefferson and several surrounding counties, including the bustling suburb of Hoover. Of the three cities, only BR is growing. BR's population has grown to 219,000 (51% black) but its metro population, which includes East & West Baton Rouge parishes as well as Ascension & one other parish, has balloned to 673,000. Jackson's population has declined from a igh of 203,000 in 1990 to its present pop. of about 182,000 (85% black) today. Jackson's metro pop., which includes Hinds, Rankin, Madison, and Richland, stands at 450,000, and has seen little growth in the last 20 years.

B'ham failed to keep pace with its sister cities of Atlanta, New Orleans, Memphis, and Jacksonville in the seventies and found itself lagging behind. That is precisely the reason some consider it along with cities such as Jackson and Baton Rouge and not with cities such as Atlanta and New Orleans. Even Nashville and Charlotte have far surpassed B'ham in the new millenium. B'ham has lost so much ground, it may never catch up with the afore-mentioned "big cities." And if it is not careful, cities such as BR is makng ground on it and may overtake it. Just look at the populatons! I used to live in Huntsville. Huntsville was a nice city but was extremely boring.

Maybe the folks from Alabama can help me out with this. Birmingham used to be the Pittsburgh of the south because of the steel industry. Well, in the '70s the U.S. steel industry took a heavy hit. It hurt the economies in Ohio and Pennsylvannia. I have to assume that it hurt Birmingham.

An area like Atlanta has never really been big on manufacturing. Sure, it has GM, Ford and some telecom facilities. Trust me. I know. I have looked for engineering jobs in Atlanta and worked at AT&T Bell Labs as a contract employtee in Norcross.

Anyway, Atlanta is mostly service and distribution-not manufacturing. With the U.S. economy becoming more service oriented in the last 30 years, areas like Atlanta have been helped. Of course it has had a large airport for over 40 years. Maybe Birmingham could get a larger airport. Like Georgia Alabama does not have the highest taxes. Taxes overall maybe lower in Alabama than in Georgia. Albeit in my humble opinion it would have help for the folks in 'Bama to pass that tax referendum in 2003. Poor people in the rural areas especially would have been helped.

As for Baton Rouge I have noticed the growth and have been a bit surprised by it since there was the oil bust. It seemed to me that Texas was better able to handle the oil bust than Louisiana. But I can't help but notice how Baton Rouge has grown. (I am an ex-B.R. resident.) As for Atlanta I can tell you that bigger is not always better. Traffic in Atlanta is a nightmare. I do not see that problem easing anytime soon.

This is just my $0.02.
