SWAC retro/pro combatlike uniforms?

Staying on subject we are talking about COLLEGE, Colleges are contacting Nike and deals are made...The SWAC has a Nike Shoe Deal but the uniforms are made by Russell and I believe they just signed on an extension...So why is it that we can get the shoes and not the full uniform...School negotiate contracts all the time...Tennessee State has an Addidas deal...In 2003 Dumb Bell got the football team Reebok deal. Not to mention back in the 90 Grambling had Nike deal..

So It cant be that hard it just takes effort that it seems are schools are not willing to put forth just saying...If schools like New Mexico, Liberty University, Portland UNiversity have full Nike deals...
Hell Montana Grizzles had pro combat style unis this season...Universities are putting in the work...

My point is that "Pro Combat"-style uniforms are just that... "styled" or designed to look at certain way. Russell can do the same thing IF THE SCHOOLS ASK FOR IT!!!

Yall are putting too much of this on Russell and not enough on the schools who request the designs.

I still dont see what the big deal is.... if you take out these pro combat uniforms... most Nike Uniforms are basic uniforms with a Nike logo. Nike has the WORST basketball team shoes. I would rather us go back to Adidas for basketball shoes. Every team had them basic ass team hyperdunks. I would rather have an Adidas contract than a Nike contract. Adidas TEAM shoes and uniforms look better than Nike uniforms.

Personally, I miss seeing the red in Jackson State uniforms...that's what I grew up on ...

However, your respective athletic departments, as well as the SWAC's, must develop a vision that can best find a medium between cost and look.

Personally, I'm not a fan of changing uniforms yearly. The best programs today, and historically for that matter, are programs that wear the same uni every year since forever. Alabama, Texas, Oklahoma Michigan, Notre Dame, Penn State and others still look the same. Who really needs to change unis every freaking year???

I agree. Alcorn got sorry as soon as we got away from those prestigious Gold helmets. Tradition does still matter. Jsu got sorry as soon as they took that intimidating red out of their colors.

So it was the helmets that made you all go 0-11? Oooooooooook.

Russell? Are we talking about Russell? I cant believe we talking about Russell. Russell cant do nothing. if that was the case, i am sure some schools would of been did it already. The first swac school to get the pro comabt uniforms gonna get alot of great players cause of that. in 2012 style matters

It's funny that one would think that uniforms makes the difference between a good team and a very poor team...

That's why their teams don't win Championships, worried about the wrong thing. Notice i didn't say any names. Lets see who bites first.:)

In the words of Primetime "If you LOOKgood, you feel good. If you feel good, you play good. And if you play good, they pay good, and they pay good, you eat good, you eat good you live good, you live good, you die good"

Fellas, nobody said a uniform makes you win or lose a game. My point was it could help in MARKETING YOUR PROGRAM and possibly a recruiting pitch. If the SWAC could negotiate better contracts overall, don't you all think that would help the conference as a whole????

You didn't. Someone else did though lol

And the rest are gonna follow suit.

No one said to break out with something completely off the wall or drain your athletic department trying to do like Maryland or Oregon. But this is 2012. Some of yall think it's insignificant to consider uniforms as a recruiting tool and will be left behind in the mid-90's when the SWAC was last significant in the national perspective.

I was just about to post this.

Of course not...but just like Prime said & DGTM. it helps you to recruit or bounce back so to speak in Alcorn's case. the way you look and present yourself matters to new recruits. Some people pick their favorite teams off of colors & uniform style. Its the 1st thing you see. It just helps

Man all your school has to do is design a new uniform to be used next season. Heck YOU can do it yourself if you want.

Any time a coach, player or team is in front of a camera that is a promotional opportunity for that university and athletic program. We all have to understand that. It's a business, people.

That's why uniforms are important. That's why Oregon, Maryland and Boise State do what they do with uniforms, helmets and even field turf color. Many have argued that Bama, USC, Texas and other heritage programs don't need to resort to such measures. Right. That is because they are Bama, USC and Texas and are able to get ungodly amounts of money and exposure most schools don't have access to which results in them staying on top.

But, if the non-traditionalists want to be on the same level competitively as those schools, one has to do unconventional things to keep up in the arms race for players, coaches and dollars.

Oregon allows football players to design the uniforms. They work with the Nike designers. If I'm Chip Kelly, I'm selling that to a kid hard. Any edge or avenue a school can use to get recruits has to be explored.

Boy O Boy,it sure would be nice to see a JSU player score a Touchdown and when he do, he throw up his hands and you see the JSU logo inside his gloves. Those Nike pro combat gloves are nice with the team logo in the inside of the glove.

I'm surprised no one (players) in the SWAC has got some made on their own...

I'm sure you will have to run it by the coach, AD, etc. but imagine if a JSU (as an example) player scores a TD on a Thursday night game on ESPN and does that? Recruiting...
