SWAC retro/pro combatlike uniforms?

Devil's Gun Trigger Man

onward and upward son!
I know ya'll see the Nike Pro Combats, and the Adidas ones that they made specially for Mississippi State's Egg Bowl game. My question is do you think our current uniform contracts allow for these kinds of "alternate" uni's that could be worn for special/designated games? (i.e. Bayou Classic, Labor Day Classic, Capitol City Classic, and etc.)

They get one new set of uniforms per year from what I understand. That new set could be pretty much any design the school wants.

Yeah I suspect that the schools could get any alternate style uniforms that the school was willing to design and pay for. Nike has a department that will rebrand an entire university's sports program. See Michigan St last year and Mizzou for the coming year. I don't get the impression there is any such department at Russell.

I made this concept borrowing the template from Nike back in 2010 for Southern. I wonder how the Pro Combat jerseys would look on all teams in the SWAC.

I don't either...

I'm sure it would hurt for any of our schools to get some artists on campus to come up with an alternate style jersey and try it for one game. I would love to see Valley in all black...

SU/Gram and BCU/FAMU has had special jerseys in the past for the BC and FC. Although it would be nice, we have waaayyyyy more pressing needs than worrying about a new set of unis for one game.

Personally, I'm not a fan of changing uniforms yearly. The best programs today, and historically for that matter, are programs that wear the same uni every year since forever. Alabama, Texas, Oklahoma Michigan, Notre Dame, Penn State and others still look the same. Who really needs to change unis every freaking year???

Yea true.I feel we should try to get back to the party (D1-AA playoffs) first before we worry about how we look

Amen especially for the ones that are trying to crawl before they can actually walk lol. That's like a poor man thinking about driving a car when he has no money.

Attention Wh-res want to change it up yearly. LOL

Doing so is an effective recruiting tool and marketing tool for the university. I bet Oregon got quite a few recruits interested in their school just because of their uniforms.

A recruiting tool when you have the money to do so. They have the money to do things like that.:read:

Yeah, it does help that Oregon's biggest donor just so happens to be the CEO of one of the largest shoe and apparel companies in the world.

Valley football is already dressed in black every Saturday. It truly is like being at a funeral. They need to cut football out at Valley. It is HORRENDOUS and a waste of money

Everything Nike takes over ends up being butt ugly. They bought Cole Haan and Converse and screwed them up. Jordan comes out with an ugly pair of $200 dollar shoes every year and Oregon and Oklahoma State look like they are preparing to invade an alien planet.

Call it what you want but Oregon's uniforms are dope.

but Oregon had ZERO football tradition... how many people knew what their uniforms looked like before this... This will work for a team like Oregon. Bama and AU uniforms plain and hell.. but you wont see nothing change about them.

This Russell contract is a joke!

Sure is...every damn team in the MEAC, SWAC, CIAA, and SIAC are rocking identical uniform sets with minor differences. We talk about it all the time on the MEAC board...especially when we saw three MEAC schools bust out brand new uniforms that all look exactly the same with different color schemes. And then you see all these HBCU teams with multiple uniform sets that don't even match. How are we supposed to brand that sh*t....and whether you guys want to admit it or not, kids nowadays wanna look clean on the field, so yeah, uniforms are kind of a big deal.

Also, some schools need to go back to more traditional looks...this holds especially true for FAMU, as I loved the uniforms we wore from the 70's up until the late 90's...very classic and clean.

Besides, how much money do our schools make from the Russell contracts? I also noticed that Tennessee State said eff it and got out of the Russell deal and signed on with Addidas.
