SWAC OFFICE CAN LEARN VALAUBLE LESSONS FROM SU AND PV

....can't see what the argument would be to keep it in what appears to be from eyewitnesses a poor stadium when there is a better option *shrug*

Jafus,

It's not an issue of not caring, but more like Mike said, an issue of some on this forum who have whined and cried about the location of every tournament in this conference. When the tournament was played in other cities, you heard NOTHING from anyone at AAMU or Ala State about it, so for any who maybe trying to make this an "Alabama" thing....DON'T!!

As has been said a million times before...THE SWAC HAS NO MONEY, and that being said, when you have no money, you have to use those ameneties that are available to you at that point and time. I look forward to the day when the conference bank account is operating in the black, and the money can flow more "freely," but until that day comes, "broke" folks will have to best use what is there for them to use.

If this were not the first time a subject of this matter has come up, I might have simply ignored it...BUT IT'S NOT. And let's be realistic...it's gonna come up again later this year (right around December,) as if these same posters have been living in a cave or another planet far away in a distant galaxy. If the attendance numbers for baseball enjoyed a sizable increase in these other locations, the point might be worth arguing...but they haven't. And let's face it...that's what the "foundation" of the complaints are about. The shooting and everything else is just a sidebar.

I've simply grown weary of the constant gripes, offentimes even on those occasions from some when the tournament is held in their backyard. Hell, if you can't satisfy them then, when will they ever get any satisfaction?

Trust me, we are both shaking our heads, albeit for different reasons!

AAMU Alum,

If we HAVE no money, and don't do anything with any THOUGHT of making money, then what? I understand your point, but by that same logic, we won't EVER have what people are 'whining' about. You can't make money for free.

Then we do what Mighty Dog suggested when he posted:

What if the SWAC Schools were to increase its annual fee to $250,000 to help solve some of these issues? We know only two schools don't mind playing in B'ham, therefore, this incident is being used to move the game to another City. What if we could keep some of our Presidents and ADs around for a good five years to tackle some of these issues?

I'm sure we're ready to pay ours. What about everybody else?

Wait a minute
Stop the press

Are yall telling GR that Vowels headed yet ANOTHER poorly planned event? Naaaw....it cant be. Not Vowels. GR heard that he was the greatest thing since Coca Cola. With the SCG going down the drain, The basketball tnry being a failure, this horrible baseball tourney that looks like it was played near a train yard, and the fact that this guy cant even organize media day, what makes yall surprised that something else that Vowels has touched done turned into lead.

And furthermore, how much money does it take to clean the damn seats in the stadium. If GR was commissioner, he would get a bucket, some towels, some water, and some soap, and go clean the seats the night before the huge crowd was due to show.

And one more thing before GR goes. Are you guys saying that Bham failed to support yet ANOTHER SWAC event? Ya dont say....GR is baffled, GR is flabbergasted. This cant be so....the people of Bham have always come out in droves to support the SWAC. Vowels should keep that trny in Bham until the SWAC is completely backrupt. Thatll show us something.

When are we going to learn that Bowels is a pariah that has NO clue about what he is doing? We still suffer under the most incompetent leadership ever in teh history of organized sports. But GR is sure things will get better if we continue to let him lead......

Well, if he claims that he is tellling the truth then he needs to keep it to the truth and not some extreme form of exxageration. He knows damn well no one broke his back.

Just in case you didn't know, I was being sarcastic.

Because we are "grown" we shouldn't say what we feel? Everyone is entitled to form his opinion about what happened. Let's not get upset because everyone doesn't feel the same way you or anyone else feels. If they had stopped the game due to darkness folks would have complained. You can't please everyone.

I know this. You say as you wish. Everybody is entitled to express their. When he said broke their back, he wasn't talking literally. There was no exaggeration, just a figure of speech that anybody with any clue about baseball picked up on. And I'm not upset. Dunno where you got that from. My whole point is, they are jumping straight over the valid issues tha TBF brought out just because he is TBF.

the band fan,

So in the hood, who's to say the field is going to be safe the next morning... or the next morning ... or the morning after that ... ad infinitnum?. Like I said before, someone could have just as easily fired shots the next day. At some point, you've got to draw the line. Let the cops do the job there're being paid do . Check it out. Call for extra security, but get the dayum game over with. We really will become a laughing stock if we start postphoning games until the next day every time this sort of thing happens.

Where this "hood" statement come from. That being the case, that's where all HBCUs are located. If Birmingham is supposedly so d@m good to the conference, why can't they arrange for the the tournament be held at the stadium where their AA team "Barons" (Chicago White Sox) play?

Does the SWAC "really" want to get money?!

Nah. The SWAC wants to remain "hoodish." lol

Hood conference playing in hood venues. Hood schools.... Hood thinking..... Hood mentality..... Hood this.... Hood that.... bush league this.... bush league that... What a terrible disgrace to the ancestry that created and initially maintained this. :shades:

what a sad commentary!
:smh:

I can only imagine the outcry if somebody from the Southland Conference or the Gulf South Conference (read: somebody white) had posted a similar comment about the SWAC.

I said it was extreme exaggeration...you said it was a figure of speech. Your opinion....my opinion. Let's agree to disagree.

If you have 10 people that were in the same place and saw the same thing, there will still be 10 different versions of the truth. Are we suppose to believe everything that the band fan says because he works in athletics? Spare me. Hell, even the baseball player from Southern was exaggerating when he said he heard the bullet whiz by his ear. He knows damn well that was a mosquito. :D

Every year folks complain about where the various championships are held. Like I said, you can't please everyone.

The SWAC is so hungry, it accepts offers that are truly ludicrous.

When you consider the teams in the tourney in Houston as opposed to the teams participating in Birmingham, the attendance in Houston was far superior to the Attendance in Birmingham.
Why.
Southern was eliminated early and PV was not even there.

MSV probably had 20 fans at the championship game.
Mike,
The tournament was not played in MacGregor it was played at Baseball USA.
Baseball USA is indeed State of the Art.

I still feel all championships should be played at a central location, with plenty of hotels and easy air access.

Kellis, I know darlin'. I ain't saying believe everything he says. But there are things that folks are disputing with him that many others confirmed. And I know you can't please everyone...That's part of being black...

This ain't about moving stuff to Houston, PV, etc. You people read what you wanna read.

It pains me to read some of this................We can do better.........

A good start would probably be more balance in the championship venues. (ALL is not "doom and gloom" though)

You are so right. BECAUSE IT'S NOT THEIR CONFERENCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can't let outsiders talk about yo isht!!

when you tell the truth...they hate the truth...ignore anyone from Alabama on this subject....they showed the "lack" of support this weekend....

half these folks on here don't even attend events in their own backyards but want to sit and complain when they don't like the truth....

Mike......I'll put my rep on the line anytime...I've seen enough sports on all levels, been to numerous facilities and given my upmost support throughout the years to know what I'm talking about..for you to even suggest Rickwood Field is decent is ludicrous.....when was the last time you been? 1980? Why don't you poll the coaches on the field? Ask them if you think I'm lying?

-----------

You made a remark about McGregor Park and then even wanted to take a shot at PV.....McGregor Park would've been a way better venue than what I witnessed this weekend. And if you know baseball (I don't think you do)...PV's field is one of the SWAC's best.....the grass is manicured, the dirt is soft, the dugouts are spacious, the lights actually come on....need I go on?
It's sad your so blinded by Alabama that you overlook little things....ask ANY plyer from ANY team participating in the tournament would they want to go back there.

---

if yall like playing in dumps just to save a dollar, so be it but it's odd from a personal standpoint most of you all stay in the suburbs way away from the city to live the good life but then want the SWAC to settle for 10th class by playing in substandard conditions...

I thought playing for the championship was supposed to be a reward for hard work...not a downgrade...

Would it be safe to say we should ignore anyone from PV as it relates to ANY SUBJECT, since you rarely win anything most times? You've had some good fortune in baseball, so now you wanna stick your chest out, huh? Should we expect to hear from you regarding the SCG's location since we know your team ain't been AND ain't goin'?

You made me go there with you!

The answer to your 1st question is no. PV is an original charter member of this conference.

Correct. Even high schools play in a better venue for championship games than they do in the regular season. CPS play their football championship game in soldier field and baseball at Cominsky oh, sorry, U.S. Cellular
Field the home of the White Sox. That is something to look forward to don't you think. That's an incentive within itself.
